mgt nitro help
#1
To start off I'm a noob at these nitro cars. Sorry for the story I just want you to understand everything. I use to race electric trucks about 5-7 years ago and got out of the sport. Recently well actually 3 years ago I was driving down my road and saw my neighbors out running there nitro truck and that gave me the BUG. I went down to the LHS and came home with a mgt 3.0. This being the 1st nitro I have owned I read all manuals and instructions and followed break in steps. I think I was on my 4th or 5th tank of fuel when I started to run it around the street no more then half throttle when it just slowly started to crawl to a stop. 1st thing I did was change the glow plug and that didn't seem to make it go. (At this point it starts up and runs but when I give it throttle it just revs up without moving.)
I get frustrated because i just bought a new truck plus it was pushing close to over 100f that day. I take it in and put it back in the box and was going to take it to the LHS and track to see if I could get some advice. Well the next day I had some big family problems come up and the truck is forgoten about. So now it sat in my closet for about a year its summer again and decided to take it the LHS they end up telling me to call TA and have them warranty it I guess. I called TA and of course they said they couldn't help because it wasn't under warranty anymore. So that pissed me lol. Truck went back to the closet.
So now today its been about 3 years and I still have this brand new broken truck and i decided to try to fix it. So I start by getting on-line and looking on forums for the same problems I was having. after reading for hours it seemed I thought it could be one of these
1. slipper clutch was loose
2. set/grub screws striped or are loose on the diffs/axles
So I looked my truck over and found I was missing 1 set/grub screw and the 3 were loose on the axle by the diff case and cup
I also adjusted the slipper clutch how the manual told me to and made a stop to get a new glow plug fuel and batteries
So after I get everything up and fixed I take it outside and it starts within a couple of pulls. It was smoking really bad but I just let It idle about half tank then I gave it some throttle and truck moved. YES!!!! I thought I fixed the darn thing.
I set all the adjustments to factory setting before starting it up the second time and also had to replace glow plug. when it fired up it was still smoking really bad so I tried to lean it out but it just keep on smoking really bad and every time a tried to lean a bit it started to die.
So please tell me what my next step is. Thanks if You read all of this!!!!!!!

Sounds like you are out of tune to me. Factory settings are usually pretty rich.
Which needle were you leaning out when it started to die? Watch some tuning video's on youtube to get an idea of how the engine will act under certain conditions and you should get an idea of what is going on.
If you can post a video we can also help you out. Do a lot of reading and watching on tuning. It will help you a lot with getting it running correctly.
Good luck and keep us updated!
