How To Convert Tmaxx??????

Hey guys I have a tmaxx 2.5 with the 3.3 engine on it, I dont know how to tell the difference between the 2 besides the engine....lol.....anyways I heard there is an older model and newer model but I dont know which mine is, It has black trans and plastic, also has the 2 speed with reverse, What I want to know is what all do I need to swap to make it a true 3.3? and what do I need to do to get rid of reverse?

There are 5 different model numbers of the Tmaxx. Models 4910 (which has 3 versions – the early narrow maxx with a pro.15 engine, the wide maxx with the 2.5 engine and the newer Tmaxx classic which also has the 2.5 engine).
Then there is the Model 4902 – 2.5R engine & 1st grey transmission, model 4909 - 1st 3.3 model, model 4908 extended chassis & no reverse, model 4907-extended chassis, no reverse with the 2.4ghz radio system.

A black transmission indicates it is one of the 4910 models.

It’s usually cheaper to buy a 3.3 roller and install your engine to bring it up to current 3.3 specs than buying all the parts needed to fully convert a 4910.
Eliminating reverse in the black transmission is as simple as installing the FOC (forward only conversion) for around $10.00.

ok thank you very much snook, So all I need then is the forward only shaft and gear?

Snook Man 04-29-2012 10:33 AM

To convert the black transmission to forward only thats all you need.
Part # 4994X

I have a foc, I would of gave you for free, you would of had to just pay shipping.

To newer 3.3
Chassis
Trans
Whole center
Gray bulks if you don't have them
3.3 diffs(4 bolt hold case not 2)
Shocktowers need to have square mounts. Not round
Axles and knuckles

The only real thing you can use off of your truck now is the arms, servos, battery, and a few other things

I personnaly wouldnt worry until things break. We are still running 2.5 diffs with a 3.3 and the small driveshafts . Finally broke a driveshaft the other night . I think the terrain tires and slipper have a lot to do with how long they last. What I have found is that a head on with a savage does more damage to the kids tmaxx than the 3.3 will ever do . LOL .

cdewalt1985 04-30-2012 08:14 PM

lol Yeah I will just run the pi** out of it....lol.....Will the FOC eliminate the takeoff delay?

hotrod87 04-30-2012 08:41 PM

Seems to because it lowers rotating mass. Plus you get rid of the extra servo and linkage. I've had half a dozen tmaxx's and always ran them without reverse.

nice thats what i want.
