The OFFICAL Maxx - Build - Thread.....
If you've built it.... Let's hear about it! From FLM to RPM!! Mamba Maxx to Titans... Pros - Cons of particular products... Rundown of your material list...
Myself: 3906 1st Gen E-maxx THE GRANDADDY OF EM ALL!!! (literally) BL Spec (new gen) Drivetrain Fully Rebuilt 2spd Trans (metal gears) Rebuilt 2nd gen Differentials... (holding up nicely) Integy Piggybacks 3908 (grey) Bulkheads (for some reason I don't go through bulks like everyone else).. So i opted to stay with plastic... My 3906 bulks were in good working order when I put the new ones in. Just wanted some change... RPM 3.3 uppers/lowers up front with factory carriers... RPM Tru-Trac in the rear... RPM shock towers... Robinson Racing HD Slipper Kit Integy Aluminum chassis braces.. Integy Aluminum tranny skid... OFNA high torque steering servo... I can turn while stopped! Can you!?!?! HPI Savage premounts (wheels/tires) EVX2 16.8... EVX 14.4 was fine, but I wanted more capacity.... Plus it's H2O proof!!! New gen Titan 550's... 1st gens were ok, but well worn to say the least... Spankin new 3906 chassis from TH.. Slightly modified with a dremel to accept the BL center shafts into the 2spd... Angles prevent them going in otherwise.. Let's be honest, the factory 3906 shafts are a joke... PRETZEL TIME!!! Brushless will prolly come soon... The truck is BL ready all the way around... If I stay with the Titans it will prolly outlive me!!! Just been spendin $$$ elsewhere as of lately.... Puttin all metal tranny gears and a RR HD Spur kit in was well worth it! Grease everything before you close it up! Still makes a bit more noise though! It is metal on metal of course!! RPM parts made more sense to me because it's a basher... And aluminum would just get bent doin the shit I do!! Haha... |

Did you use the UE gears ?
Here's my 3906 with a few extra bits http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...1147_small.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...lede020a-1.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...e/DSCN1286.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...e/DSCN0726.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...e/DSCN0731.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...e/DSCN0724.jpg My next build will have a stock 3906 chassis and complete 1/8th buggy front and rear end Brushless 2350kv 14,4v and either buggy center diff or 3906 2speed gearbox with hardened steel gears And a choice of SC8 wheels with Slash 4x4 body or Maxx wheels with a monster truck body |
I believe they were UE... Guy had a laundry list of parts for sale online and I saw the "2spd steel replacement gears"... $70 later and I have an indestructible transmission.... I couldn't find them brand new ANYWHERE!!! It took me about a month of searching to find the ones I purchased... I don't guess UE makes em anymore cause they were never in stock....

I actually have have a few 33T and 31T raw stock gears that I can mill, drill and turn to replace the two main gears I already use the 3996X steel idler gears in my 3906 Only had to narrow them a bit http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...idlersteel.jpg Here's a comparison from Neil's guide http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...axxguide3a.jpg |
Now I did order the UE idlers! From UE! That was one thing they DID have in stock.... So those are brand spanking new... I cleaned the others up, soaked em in diesel for a night, then smeared grease all over everything while I was rebuilding.... Prolly the best thing I did to that truck!!! It does make a little more racket (metal on metal) but the piece of mind is there.. Knowing I can run any BL motor system I want and have a trans that will hold up to it!! For now I'm satisfied with the new titans I dropped in it... Thinkin about goin with a V-twin BL set-up... But don't wanna make momma mad by spendin $500 on such a project just yet... Haha... The $$$ is there... But the justification??? Negative... LOL..

Oh did you remember to do the topshaft upgrade ??
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...e/DSCN0678.jpg And that vas with a 775 Titan on NiMh batt's ...in low gear E-Maxx 3906 Monster Jam Freestyle Video http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...axxguide17.jpg |
You know I did not do that...... But I have read here and there about it... So far so good on mine... Really haven't had any issues.. But I'd imagine that when I go BL, this will be something I'll NEED to do... Otherwise I'll be taking a similar picture... Thanks for the reminder....

Or you'll look like this :weird:  if you didn't know
I'm surprised my topshaft lasted this long, the best and cheapest gearbox upgrade I've done to date I got my 3906 in 2001 just after the EVX had replaced the VX-12 My box still had the VX-12 info but there was a sticker on the wrapping, can't remember what it said but something about "includes upgraded EVX" http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/HPIM2589.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/HPIM2588.jpg Oh and the FIRST upgrade I did to mine was to replace the white battery plugs with bullet connectors and later Deans |
Original 3906 BOX!!!! What!!!!

Mine had the red body http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/HPIM2587.jpg I know ...I'm weird  Oh and I also have the original box from my gold tub RC10ce, RC10 team car and RC10B2 http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z.../DSCN0188s.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z.../DSCN0186s.jpg Didn't you save your box :p |
Just found this vid
Y2K 3906 E-Maxx unboxing! |
WOW!!! And back then that thing was THE SHIT!!! The FIRST & ONLY electric MT at the time!!!
|
Not to mention the T-Maxx that was released just a year earlier
I also had a Clod Buster and a Juggernaut2 both were extensively modified But my FAVOURITE monster has to be the 3906 E-Maxx I kept it stock for 7 years......... SEVEN YEARS.....! ! ! :weird: And that is soo not like me, The only other car I kept 95% stock was my first RC10 |
That's awesome!!! I LOVE MINE!!! I also purchased one of the original 3906's back in the day.. Around '02 I believe.. It was a EVX equipped model.. Kept it for about 3 years... Lost time and $$$ was tight while in college.. So I sold it to a co-worker for $300... It was all aluminum and heavily modified! I miss that truck!!! The one I have now I bought used off of another member (cumminsdriver)... As soon as I got it in the mail, I tore it to pieces and was a little kid all over again!!! And about $500 later, I have it the way I want it!! Until I go BL that is....
