Default T maxx or Savage?? Maybe something else?

I am looking for a good project truck, gonna bash/race. I want something with a lot of aftermarket support. Something that has TONS of upgrades easily avaliable and just a all around good truck. Anyone have any suggestions? (Keep in mind I am looking for a project truck Not a new guy)

Yeah that is one drawback to the maxx is the 1/10. I do prefer the 1/8.

TMAXXs are better these days if you get a new one, but Savage has always been a beast. Plus so many engine choices.

I have never owned traxxas or hpi. I have always been a losi man but was looking to try something different I guess.

I personaly have never had good luck with the T maxx i had a couple and they were always broke. The savage x 4.6 was one of the best truck i ran.I had almost 15 gallons on the stock motor in my savage and it still ran strong. The savage was a much stronger truck i rarely had it break. I would have to say savage hands down.

I purchased a new 3.3 T maxx last year and that thing was insane. I have never owned a Savage, so i cannot comment there. I must say the T/E maxx aftermarket support is second to none.

You know thats the thing I hear over and over so it must be true that a savage is a very durable truck.

Ive had both trucks and they are both great, if your just gonna run on light dirt and go off small jumps and not beat it to much then i would go for the t-maxx, but if you wanna beat the living piss outta the truck then deff get a savage. I loved both trucks, me personally in my experience i liked the trx 3.3 better than the savage 4.6 engine but once i got a novarossi engine in the savage it was unbelieveable

The Savage is hand down the best out of the box...

Now if you want to spend a bunch of money upgrading, then the t-maxx may be what you want. They need several upgrades and there are a LOT of options for upgrading them.

I'd get a Savage X SS or an XL. Only things you would really need to upgrade is the steering servo, servo saver & the carriers. Later you could always do a mid tank mod. Savages are tough & can take a real beating. I currently have an old Savage 21 with a new K4.6 & I absolutely love it. Next im getting an XL & I'm going to put an ercm modded .28 in it

What all models of the savage are there and what are the differences? I have heard of the 21 xl and several other variations.

Hi.

They started with the savage 2.5 then the older model savage x with the purple headed 4.6. Then they had the kit version which was the savage x ss and now you have the newer silver headed savage x from 2011 and last but not least you have the savage XL.

Also to add there going to be coming out with a gas powered x. I'm pretty sure I covered the savage from start to now. I'm sure someone with chime in if I'm wrong..

P.s. I forgot the savage flux HP and 2530. If you where to get a savage, I would say the newer x with the silver head. They fixed the diff issues that the old x had and maybe some other issues. Also to add they put the big bores on the newer x. The XL has BP diffs and extended tvps and a wider stance.

I would go with the XL. I have one with a picco 28 and a mid tank mod and have done some huge jumps with it.

So if your after huge air and not or most likely break anything go with the XL or newer x. Good luck picking one out..
