Engine For Savage X HELP!!

So I need a new engine for my savage x but I don't want to spend so much money on those O.S engines. So I'm looking for a stock engine that comes with a rtr monster truck.
So my question is what is the best stock engine out there that I can put in my savage?

Your not going to want the BEST motor if your on a budget... I would personally look for something used in the for sale/trade forum. i seen a few for around 60-70$ Also look for something that is fairly inexpensive to replace parts. Ebay and this site have been nothing but good to me. The savage k4.6 is actually your best bet. If your having a huge loss of power maybe look into a new piston and sleave for it? idk just my two cents to help out a new guy. good luck

You can get Losi 454's new and cheap on ebay.. They are identical to an LRP Spec 3.

There COULD be an issue with the backplate fitting, and you might need a Losi Spin-start. In my experience though, the Losi Spinstart system is FAR more reliable than the HPI Rotostart. Far fewer OWB issues..

A great budget Savage engine is the Dynamite Big Red .28....

What do you mean I will have problems?.
On the savage x I had a pullstart because I hate the rotostart.
So its between the lrp and the 454

He meant for the rotostart backplate, but since you like the pull start, you don't have to worry about it.

The lrp .28 spec 3 is the same the losi 454.

So between the lrp and the losi 454, I know everyone says there the same, but which of the both is the recommended one?

Cadimman 01-30-2012 08:25 PM

Due to price I would go for the Losi.

Herrsavage 01-30-2012 11:09 PM

Yeah - for some reason Losi engines often come with bigger, bulkier backplates, which can sometimes be a problem on Savage engine mounts. It's been a long time since I had a Savage, so I don't know. Might be fine though. I believe it was an issue with the older Mach engines from LST2's, but maybe now it's better?....

The Losi 454 has a combo pull-and Spin-start backplate.. So you can use both.. But for 1/8 big blocks pullstarts are rarely good and reliable...

Well I run the LRP .30 and .28 in my XL and it is a drop in engine.

pan bimbo 01-31-2012 07:33 AM

Does anyone know how long the losi 454 is because there's very little room on the savage. There's atleast 10-15mm to expand. But if its going to be a problem fitting, I think I'm going to go with lrp .28 but I'm not sure yet.

But it's not a Losi engine, is it?..

pan bimbo, the Losi won't be longer. It just used to be the case that the Spin-start backplates were too big for Savage engine mounts. The new 454 as well as the Dynamite Big Red have combo Spin-start/pull-start backplates - and I don't know if they fit in a Savage automatically.. I would think the Big Red does.. The Losi probably does too.. Just back in the day there were issues getting Machs to fit...

I would still look seriously at the 454, since they can be had so cheap on ebay.. Maybe some Savage dudes in the know can confirm if it is a dirct fit..

I don't understand you...:confused: Others as well as YOU above stated they are identical. So what is this statement about? :weird: I was stating my Spec III fits straight in so I expect the Losi does.:confused:
