You have to use a Hardened Steel clutch bell when using a steel spur from what I've heard.

What brand of steel spur gear do you have? if it's Integy, thats the problem.. tried them last year and went thru a clutch bell per race.. lhs had alot of issues with em also..

You have to push the whole gear into the spur as tight as you can get it with the engine and mount as straight as possible. Then you want to back the gear out of the spur keeping the engine and mount as straight as possible just enough to let it spin free with no binding.

Basically you want as much tooth biting the spur with the least amount of binding. Almost sounded like you were using 2 different gear pitches
