Default 32t pinion and 54t spur

haha, well I decided to try it on my emaxx just for giggles, ran it for about 2 feet and noticed bad cogging so I switched to first because the gear ratio in first gets me close to a 1 to 1. I went another 2 feet and my esc shuts off. What could have happend? ESC is damage.d some how, because it doesn't even arm anymore. Good thing it was a cheap pos 150a.

Maybe it caused a short when it cogged?

Track Star from hk haha. I'm getting the HK 150a next, it has better reviews.
I think the ESC just decided to give up because there known to just quit. Haha yea I wanted to go 70mph or at least 60. Sadly it didn't pan out. I usually run 21/66 and it runs great. Motor temps are perfect and esc is warm long with batterys.

Well, let me suggest a different ESC. Leave the Hobbyking ESC's behind. There lipos are good, but Ive read real mixed reviews on ESC's.
Hobbywings ESC's are very reliable and have a very low failure rate. I would look to XERun 80A or SC8 120A if your running 4s. If 6s the EZrun Pro 150A, XERun 150A.
Kershaw Designs has the SC8 120A and the Leapord 150A(Its a EZrun Pro relabeled)

Or just shop around here! Ive bought 4 used Mamba Max Pro's on here for $70-$80 shipped. They are generally listed for $90, but if you offer $75 they will generally accept.

When you over gear like that, the starting current goes thru the roof - that's prob why you had the cogging. High starting amps prob damaged something in the esc.

Make smaller gearing charges instead of a huge jump, see what the temps are doing and then make another charge if temps are ok. Or just accept that you may be burning thru a few escs....

haha, but its rated for 950 burst amps. I guess not right I kinda have to get another hk esc because their going to give me store credit for the return. The hk esc will handle what I need it to. I just can't do wildly outlandish things with the esc.

Well I would get the Hobbyking 150A then. Ive read fair reviews. Either it will be great or die off quick. Good luck

If it was true cogging you would have had HUGE amps as a result. A more reputable esc will handle the current better until it gets to a certain temperature. Some esc's give the amp rating for when the esc is at room temp, what they don't tell you is the rating drops off as the esc heats up.
