I already trimmed down the TVP's for weight. Then I wrapped them in flat black vinyl.

This is an AMAZING build. It looks Soooo clean and simple with the esc, servo and stuff in the batt boxes. love love love it. cant wait for a vid.

BLSully 09-19-2011 07:27 PM

This is a sweet build!:tire:

eds24 09-25-2011 06:10 PM

Long story short...I tried doing a bench test and my piece of crap Hobbyking 100a esc blew up...:flaming: so I have everything else done but have an esc installed... so you could say its a complete roller

Tonight I'm ordering a Hobbywing esc and once that gets here I will get it installed and shoot a video of it at a few different bash spots.

Until then...enjoy some pictures!

Awsome!

Muggydude 09-25-2011 07:51 PM

That is really awesome man. I'm sure if traxxas were to make it they would sell A TON of them to Stampe and 1/10 guys.

mkiiina 09-25-2011 08:28 PM

great build man! glad to see it all come together! what body is that?

Joeman37 09-25-2011 08:48 PM

Man she turned out GREAT! Way to go and with nothing more than some hand tools and attention to detail, cool! I was disappointed when you posted your original wheels you picked out would not worked and hated the look of those chrome ones you found that would work, however once blacked out they look pretty slick. Can't wait to see the videos!

Do you know or have a rough idea how much you spent on materials?

+1! And I am also wondering what body that is.

FireFrenzy 09-25-2011 11:54 PM

Nice looking truck man... For some reason the tires look a little slim tome... which is weird since i know they are pretty wide (i own that exact set) and on my backslash they look buff...

Hi.

Its a traxxas stampeda body. I had one on my Picco.26 powered rusty. Very nice build man.

Hotbodiesd4 10-04-2011 10:20 PM

nice.

eds24 10-05-2011 09:31 PM

Thanks guys for the compliments! I have to agree I think it turned out pretty awesome.

Muggydude: Yea I think they could sell alot of them to the stampede guys..and it would allow them to re-use the Slayer plastic parts.

Mkiiana and ebailey: Despite what Doug e fresh says Its a Losi 1/10th Highroller body. Not a Nitro stampede body

Joeman: Thanks! Yea it was sort of a bummer finding out the original Imex wheels wouldn't work especially since I specifically ordered them directly from Imex for this project. I think the losi wheels actually ended up looking better though once I blacked them out.

Tizao: I didn't spend very much on materials really. An 12x24" 1/8" 6061-T6 aluminum sheet can be had for about $20-30. The 3/8" lexan I had sitting around and a sheet of that costs about $20 or so depending on the size. Other than that I just used some vinyl and that's about it. The expensive part is all the electronics and the other parts.

Firefrenzy: I personally don't think they look all that narrow...compared to masher 2000's though they are model thin though.

Sorry for the lack of updates guys. I've once again been busy with school. I got a Hobbywing xerun 150a esc from hobbypartz last week to replace the HobbyKING esc that blew up. The Hobbywing esc is pretty large which caused some fitment issues in the battery box. I had two choices..to stand it up on its side..or to mount it like you would regularly mount an esc. Mounting it sideways would work..and the top wouldn't stick out from the side of the battery box but the problem was that the wires would be sticking out of the battery box in the opposite direction of the motor so wiring would've been a mess.

So, I decided to mount it like you would traditionally mount an esc...I had to enlarge the hole on the battery box by quiet a bit to make it fit...I also had bolt on a cut down RPM Stampede esc mount to mount the esc on since the side of the esc sticks out past the battery box. Mounting it like this allows the wiring to be a lot cleaner. Unfortunately, 1/4 of the esc is sticking out so perhaps later on I will make a plastic guard to protect it..but for now I think it should be fine.

Here are some pictures with the esc mounted... along with a couple of pictures showing the finished truck without the body.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/...2918-45-53.jpg

After I got everything wired up I managed to take it for its first test run. I have to say it definitely has enough power. It can do controllable wheelies. Unfortunately, no standing back flips because of the center diff but its very fast and accelerates quickly . I got 20 minutes of running in before I stripped the plastic spur gear.

Today I went to change the spur gear and it takes FOREVER to change the spur gear on this because its buried under everything. I'm thinking possibly I should replace the plastic 50t spur gear I had with a steel one. I know that plastic ones are quieter and last awhile with proper mesh but I feel like if I have a steel one in there I won't have to run the chance of getting the spur gear eaten up if the motor moves. Especially, because it takes so long to change the spur. Plus the flux has a steel spur so why not my truck?

Once I get a new spur I will get some videos for you guys. Stay tuned!

TIZAO 10-06-2011 12:21 AM

Looks super sick all blacked out.... cant wait for vids.... make sure to do some backflips off a chain link fence... those are super cool slowed down... thats my directing tip!

I've been watching this build and I think you've done a great job, is it as big as the revo or bigger?

WindDrake 10-20-2011 09:07 PM

Insane truck build. The all-black hardware makes me think military gear.

eds24 10-22-2011 07:49 PM

Sorry guys for it taking such a long time to get a video up...but I finally have one for you guys..I hope you guys aren't too disappointed...I planned on bashing it harder than what's in this video but, I don't want to mess it up too bad before I have to possibly send it to the magazine. And once I get it back from the magazine I'll be putting it up for sale. Originally I had a lot of big plans for this video but I can't put anymore money into this project as I have to focus on racing...

anyway enough talking here it is...
(and yes I know that I need to learn how to jump haha...I just build the cars I don't drive much)

+ YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

ebailey95 10-22-2011 08:13 PM

looks fantastic. What are you looking to get for it when selling?

TIZAO 10-22-2011 08:17 PM

Cool video!! Whats the story with that big ass dirt pit??? That looks like a TON of fun!!!!.... I will start the bidding off with $100.... Noone else is interested.... so I guess just get the box made out to MY adress!

FireFrenzy 10-22-2011 11:48 PM

dunno why but seeing things driving about and doing stuff is always better then watching things sitting still...

d3lap 10-25-2011 11:44 AM

Awesome build man! Custom's are they best!

eds24 10-27-2011 10:39 PM

Ebailey: Thanks! I'm not sure..yet.. I don't really want to say until I get it up for sale...which most likely will be a couple months if Rcdriver wants to do an article on it. I'll post in my build threads the information when I sell it before I put it up in the for sale thread though.

Tizao: The big dirt pit is a huge bmx track..at the same park is a r/c track , a skate park and some big bmx street jumps...its pretty much a bashers dream..and its only 15 minutes from my house haha. I wish I could sell it for only $100 unfortunately I have another project which is demanding money.

Firefrenzy: Yeaaa I agree videos to seem to always be better than pictures...

d3: Thanks!

When I was taking some shoots for the video I stopped by the LHS and they has a 2wd stampede and a e-revo on display so I decided to take some comparison pictures for you guys to show you the actual size of this thing since some people are confused.. its just a tad bigger than the Stampede 2wd/4x4 but quiet bit smaller than the Revo. As you can see the Zero is BEEF compared to the stampede.

There's always a bigger fish ;)

Muggydude 11-01-2011 06:41 AM

Send it to RC Car action, I'm sure they would do an article about it, especially considering it's a mix of revo and savage. Then ask if they can put it up for auction on their site, I'm sure it will get a lot of bids from magazine readers.

rcmostertrukguy 11-01-2011 07:05 AM

[QUOTE=eds24 I have another project which is demanding money.

[/QUOTE]

what project is next

eds24 11-03-2011 03:16 PM

Solid: I actually feel like this truck is the perfect size :)

Muggy: I have been doing a coupld articles and there for Rcdriver so I chose to give them dibs on a article on it if they want. If they aren't interested I would send pictures to RCCA but the only thing is last time I sent them pictures of one of my projects it took them 6 months to reply haha

Rcmoster: TC6 big change in the type of project haha...monster truck to touring car

Muggydude 11-03-2011 06:59 PM

Looked at the vid again. seriously dude, you NEED to contact traxxas. That thing is sick, seems super tough, standing backflips, still 1/10, what more could you want?

It With the TVPs traxxas could actually make a truck that's chassis won't snap! Plus their revo suspension is pretty solid!

Heck maybe even say I'll sign over the rights too to them (traxxas) in return for a discount on the products or a few loaded models when the production versions come out. Just an idea!

I have pretty much forsaken bashing for racing, but it might be fun for the winter to get a waterproof version out in the snow!

I'm going to send traxxas an email with some pictures and a video and such. The hard part is that they don't give out any contact info for the marketing team or the development team.. so I just have to send the email to customer service and hope that they send it on.

I honestly think this is what they should have made instead of the stampede 4x4. The stampede isn't durable enough for me...and the revo and savage flux are too big.. so I built this.

The problem with the TVP chassis is that Hpi would throw a fit if Traxxas made a truck with a TVP chassis.

That's funny because I'm giving up bashing for racing thats why I'm going to be selling this project soon.

Muggydude 11-07-2011 02:49 PM

You heading out to Mhor? What class(es) will you be running?

eds24 11-07-2011 02:56 PM

Muggydude 11-07-2011 03:08 PM

FireFrenzy 11-08-2011 02:37 AM

i'm hoping he'll get the bumps ironed out of his own 2wd buggy:) that thing was PIMP looking;)

melonpeel 11-08-2011 01:29 PM

Nice layout. You going to put a wing on it? Might solve the nose diving issue off every little bump and hump.
