Default e-maxx brushless conversion question

i have an emaxx 16.8 2.4 ghz edition.

i am wanting to upgrade it to the waterproof brushless sec & motor combo.

my question is if i still run nihm instead of lipo i can only use one battery pack with this set up. how will that compare to the torque, power, and speed of the stock set up with the dual motor & dual battery pack?

I don't think the Traxxas System would do too well in there. That's rated for 10th scale applications and an E-Maxx is closer to 8th scale. You'd be better off with a Castle Creations setup but the only problem there is they're not waterproof.

From the looks of the videos on youtube it seems to have good power!

Look up jetlag2222 on youtube

I just put a vxl system in my old .15 tmaxx that I converted to BL, and it kicks pretty good, dont have a lot of gearing choices and right now its geared low so I have to run it on 3s lipo but it hauls ass. And has plenty to push it. And mine is an old alum extended chassis, also does not get hot.

Ive ran the VXL in the 3906 Maxx and its a small improvement over stock, but not much. The 3905 Maxx is a bit longer and bigger than the older one your refering to. It would work ofcourse, but you would have to gear it so loww that it wouldnt gain much speed over stock. I would look at the Castle Mamba Monster Max 2200 combo as well. Its not "waterproof", but they are water resistant. Ive ran my E Revo brushless w/MMM in wet conditions with no issues. I wouldnt suggest running any RC under water. Even the VXL systems. If you dont have $300to drop into a brushless and thats a reason you where lookin into a VXL you could consider the XERun 80A combo. There about the same cost and suited to run 1/8s and MTs. And there water resistant. I have the ESC in my Maxx and have ran it in snow, rain, mud with no problems. Hobbywing states there waterproof on there site. Ive had my maxx's chassie packed full of snow after winter bashing and it hasnt failed yet. And to run two batteriies youll need to soilder the plugs on in a seriers curcuit to double voltage.

well this is a bummer.

i thought that that was the brushless combo that went in the emaxx if i wanted to upgrade it to brushless.

i really do want to keep it fully waterproof. do you guys think that traxxas will eventually come out with their own waterproof brushless esc/motor combo designed specifically for the emaxx?

Hopefully! But Im telling you that the Hobbywing Xerun is about as waterproof as you'll need. Unless you plan on completely submerging the truck, which Traxxas recommends you never do, even with a VXL set up. You have my word it will stand up to any respectable amount of water, rain, snow, mud or what ever else you put your truck through. Ask around. There very reliable set ups.

I'd get the mamba monster system and keep it dry, that system is pretty fast in a maxx truck. It's reliable, and can take some accidental water. Vxl and off brands will just nickel and dime you to death.

You might also want to look at running two vxl systems in the e-maxx. My buddy Brad had that setup in his 3903 and it was fast as sin. He had no running problems and running two systems will cut down on the wear and tear of the weight of the truck. Check out on youtube for the traxxas v twin you will see what i am talking about. and if i am not mistaken the traxxas vxl system you can get fairly cheap online or do a traxxas power up through your local hobby store the system is like $130 when you trade in your motors and speed control.

I wouldnt mess with the dual set ups. They will not run in sink with each other. Traxxas tried that with there original plans on the brushless E Maxx and I spoke with the TRX tech support about this and its not really cost effective and really wont give you more than a bigger single brushless set up. One motor and ESC will always be under stress as they arent perfectly running in perfect sink. One will eventually fail. As for Hobbywing...There set ups will not "nickle & dime" you. They are very reliable. You can find more forums and post where Castle's and Novak's failed than you will find about EZ/XE runs going up in smoke. Ive personally put them through the ringer and they always keep on truckin. I would suggest a Mamba system over any of it, but for $150 you can pick up trhe Xerun 80A 2250kv combo and run head to head with any Castle system.
Theres a guy on here selling a Novak HV system for $150. That system is splash proof. I dont know where you plan on running this truck, but most ESCs are water resistant enough to play in the mud and snow. Just dont drive in into a lake. lol
