I am new to Nitro trucks..A friend of mine is in need of some cash and has a Savage xl with 3 speed and steel gear set..he has 5 different motors
all fresh that I can choose from. He will break in every motor and tune for me.

Which would you guys get? BTW I have family with a Assoc 8.0 that was swapped out for a 28rr axis that I would like to hang with..

Axial .32 green Head

LRP Z28 Spec 2

Orin Wasp 28

Os 3.0 VG

Savage 4.6 thats Balanced and ported and polished

Thanks Nick

They are are decent engines just vary in price and quality, Which that all depends on what your wanting to do with it. I wound recomend the O.S for the truck if you want to keep up with the RR. But what are you really planning to do with the truck?? And what is he asking for the engines?

No extra price for my choice of motors I just want to play on parking lots in winter and maybe a soccer field in summer ..maybe some jumps but NOT trying to be a youtube hero just wanna have some fun and race my boys 3.3 revo, 28rr assoc, and a 2.5 traxxas..dad hates to lose

I know the guy and he is giving me a great deal money wise he just left engine choice up to me I think all the boys are in 44 50mph range so I want to hang if not beat them in a drag race

Hi.

I say the lpr or the o.s motor. The lpr makes insane power at the low end and high end. I think it makes 4.02 hp at low rpms which will get that big truck moving. I head a lot of good come from the o.s motor too. Myself had the same question because I'm wanting to find a better motor than what's in my losi xxl when the time comes. The 454 in the losi is made by lpr if that means anything to you.

Good luck and enjoy wooping up on your kids or the other way around lol.

its a toss up between the lrp and the wasp. the os 30 is kinda disapointing.
the lrp makes decent power all around and reliable. the wasp is a nice mill as well and very similar to the lrp but the lrp is easier to find parts for. id get rid of the 3 speed. from what i understand its over rated and most went back to the 2 speed tranny.

Thanks for all the feedback.
I went with LRP and HPI high speed 3peed

Original 3 speed:
The topshaft 3rd gear has 24 teeth.
The middleshaft 3rd gear has 38 teeth.

77065 & Hi Speed 3 speed:
The topshaft 3rd gear has 26 teeth.
The middleshaft 3rd gear has 36 teeth.

Doing the math, the Hi Speed 3 speed does offer up a 15% improvement on the top end (actually 14.68% rounded up to 15%) over both the 2 speed and original 3 speed.
