Default Savage... Good deal?

I have the chance to get a barely run Savage for around $275. Should I do it? Is it a good truck? Anything I should know about? I was wanting to wait for the Revo, but this is just too good a deal.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,
J

The Savage is awesome. I've beat the crap out of mine, bashing and racing. The only thing I've broken on it in the last year is the post that holds the battery lid in place and a stripped servo gear set. The performance is actually pretty good, surprising for an HPI engine.

If you can spare a few more bucks, Ultimatehobbies.com is having a July 4th sale.

$350 for the Savage 25 RTR
$300 for the SS Kit w/engine
Free shipping.

But, if you're waiting for the Revo you might have second thoughts when you see them on the shelf in a couple of weeks. Myself, I'm waiting for the LST and will pass the Savage on to one of my cousins who race with me.

If you do decide to grab a Savage, it's a must that you replace the steering servo with a high torque, preferably metal gear. The HPI SF-2 that comes with the RTR won't last very long either bashing or racing.

Thumbs up Savage

I also love my Savage. $275 is a great deal. If you're also thinking about the Revo, it's kinda hard to compare the Savage with a truck that's only been seen in magazines. My Savage has been very tough. Also, tons of hop-ups are readily available for the Savage. You'll probably have to wait a while for Revo hop-ups. I would get it! Then if you want a Revo when it's out, you can always sell the Savage and at least break even on the deal.

Jitsuguy,

Is the truck a first generation Savage RTR, a Savage SS that has been made into a RTR, or a Savage 25 RTR? If it is the second or third previously mentioned, I would go for it. If it is a first generation RTR, you should offer the person around $200 or so. Like a couple of guys mentioned, add a few more bucks and you could get a brand new truck (any brand) and have the warranties that you will not have on the used truck. Good luck with your decision.

Cool, thanks for the help fellas! I don't know which generation it is but it's hardly even used so I would think that it would be newer but who knows... I'll talk to the guy tomorrow and get an answer on that... But right now I'm leaning towards getting it anyway... I don't have an MT yet and I really want one.

Thanks!
