take all the electrics out, motor and pipe, spray the car with simple green, rince with water, spray with compresses air, spray wd40 on car, spray with compressed air, put car back together....if needed rebuild or replace parts before putting it back together....

that's pretty good and very effective...
but your going to change alot more parts ibn the long run buy putting water on it! unless you take it completetly appart each time you wash it to be sure all the water is out of everywhere ...
my opinion on the BEST way would be to take it all appart and clean every part one buy one by hand in a rag and oil solution. NO KIDDING!!!

but honestly , why do you think guys throw thier trucks under a hose any ways?

soo what i , a fellow non washer , do is just the spray lube, and air hose. when it gets too greasy looking , a little engine shampoo then the air hose, and hand polish with rag. at least the flat surfaces
if it is dripping in mud .. you allready need to take it apart to clean it properly
