i posted in the other offroad forum.. didnt fully realize that the revo was a MT
anyhow...
leaning heavily towards a nitro revo. it will be my first nitro vehicle.
want to bash around with my son.
concrete, grass, flat loose dirt, construction ground with golfball size to baseball size rocks.
those are the conditions around our home
thinking revo, savage or t-maxx
i know traxxas has tons of parts support at local hobby shop. not sure about hpi?
bottom line is that i will never race it. but i would like to take it to the local track to race around every once and awhile
what do you guys think?

I have a T-Maxx 3.3 the older version and love it. Parts are easy to find anywhere on the net. Also some of the E-Maxx parts are some what compatable which means more people are parting out and selling the parts you may need.

Savage X 4.6 RTR hands down for a strict basher. The truck is THE toughest MT and rarely ever breaks anything unless you really try to break it. The only thing I have had to replace on one is a plastic spur gear that cost a whopping $3.
My second choice would be a Losi LST2. Amain has them on sale right now for $479. Comes with a good radio and is also a very tough truck. It can also be track ready a lot faster and easier than a savage.
I own both and they each have their own high and low points.
I have also owned several different Revo's including the newest 3.3 version. The Revo's do NOT stand up to the type of bashing I like to do. The Revo is more track worthy than it is backyard basher worthy. The truck handles like a truggy once you add just a few things to it. I would only own another revo if it was intended for track use only. They break pretty easy compared to other MT's as well.
But going off of what you typed as a basher only I would get the Savage and not think twice......
Here's my Savage and LST:

i appreciate the replies!
my hobby shop told me that i should stick w/ a traxxas truck because they stock traxxas parts and not hpi
so with that in mind, is the tmaxx a viable option?

For a basher - Savage, no question. I have the older 4.6SS and its been through it and back and keeps right on taking it. I've broken a few pieces - but mostly stupid stuff messing around. I have 2 TMaxxes and they'll need a lot to get them to the point that they don't break often. Savage!

It all comes down to how hard you're going to bash it. Everything truck will break something at some point. If your local hobby shop does'nt carry spare parts for the truck you buy, you will have to either drive to a farther store or buy parts on-line. I live overseas and have to order parts on-line. Very annoying when you have to wait a week for something and pay almost double on some parts once shipping is added on.

well im going to go with the revo i believe.
bottom line is i do want to own something that my LHS has a large supply of stock for.
i am not going to be jumping over house, cars or people.
im just going to be screwing around with my son.
i do want to be able to take it to the local track with him
i do want it to be easily raced if we ever decide to do that.
theres not a monsterous price difference between the savage and the revo
worst case, if i hate it, my son will get a nice revo and ill be on the hunt for something new.
thanks for the thoughts guys!

i started with a traxxas revo and have not regreted it at all its a well built truck i have run with t-maxx and savages bashing and racing they are all competive.t-maxx and savage are very tipsy and if your new to it you will be flipping them back over alot but you can fix that with some suspension mods.like somebody said they all do break at sometime and worked on them all and handsdown the revo was the easiest to work on.hope you have good luck with your new nitro mt

a muggy makes a tough MT as well i have one that i put lst towers and wheels on that will hold up to anything a savy would but a savy is definatlly a awsome tough truck but if you are going traxxas its good your lhs carries parts you will need to stock up on them cause they do break with little abuse

by the way if you do get the revo and use it for bashing i would highly recommend getting the rpm arms very strong and if you can break one rpm replaces for free all the arms can be bought for under $30 cheap upgrade for a durable product.thats the only part that really broke on me so i got the rpm arms and have been racing and bashing for over a year and no problems with the rpm arms
