T-MAXX WILL NOT SHIFT
Any ideas on way my Maxx will not shift into second gear. Pretty sure that the slipper is tight. It is also very sluggish off the line. I use to have a great hole shot, now it is crap. Any help or suggestions would be helpful.

maybe lean the LSN for quicker acceleration, as for the shifting problem try turning the HSN, maybe richer?

bad clutch?

could be locked in 2nd gear. would explain sluggish starts and no shifting.

if your truck is not shifting right there is a little plug on the transmission case and you will have to look in that whole, there you will see that there is a gear in there and you have to rotate that until you see a set screw and that set screw will loosen or tighten the shifting arm that ingages the second gear. so what sonds like that problem is is that that set screw is too tight. if you have the manual for it it will tell you which way to turn the screw, if i am correct it should be counter clockwise. dont quote me on that but i think it is. just get the manual and read the instructions on there it will take a few times of trying and getting mad but it works.

Make sure your engine is tuned right before you do anything else. A poorly tuned engine is the number one culprit when it comes to a non shifting t-maxx. While I've never seen a maxx stuck in second gear, I guess it's possible, but I would only go there after I made sure my engine was correctly tuned and my shift point adjustment was checked.
Depending on which maxx you have, if it's got a black transmission case be very careful when adjusting your shift point. The earlier Black transmissions (including a lot of 2.5 maxx's) have a set screw securing the 2 speed clutch to it's shaft and this set screw will also show through the shift adjusting window in your transmission case. If you loosen this screw you will have to split your transmission cases to get it back right. If you are not sure which trans you have, make sure you are turning the CORRECT set screw before you try adjusting your shift point. Refer to the traxxas web site for specific information on how to adjust either the old or new transmission. All that said, I'd be willing to bet a good engine tune will solve your problem. |
so have you sourced the problem?

its not an engine tuning problem i will garentee that!!! i have two of them, all you ahev to do regaurdless the transmission case color they both adjust the same. even if you have the new transmission crontrol that the newest t-maxx has they both adjust the same. if you think it is stuck in 2nd gear then all you have to do is find that set screw through the window there and tighten it that will allow for the engine rpms to get higher before it shifts. what i probably is doing now it because the screw is too loose just the idle of the engine probably spins the tranny and puts it in 2nd gear, so just tighten that screw up alittle at a time and go out and take it for a run down the road and if it still dont shift tighten it alittle more until it does shift.

If you have 2 trucks and both are the newer transmission, you have no idea what the older style looks inside and you will cause someone with an old transmission to have to split their cases with your bad, and obviously wrong, advice. Yes, adjusting the shift point in both the old and new style transmission is the same. It's also the same in the revo, but the old transmission has 2 screws you can turn on the same shaft and if you turn the wrong one your 2 speed clutch will no longer be attached to the transmission shaft. The only way to get it back right is to open the transmission and set it all back up correctly, then retighten the screw you should never have loosened in the first place. Before traxxas changed the way they attach the two speed clutch in the maxx transmission, I can't tell you how many i had to open up and fix because some know it al knob gave someone else bad advice on how to adjust their 2 speed. |

That's odd, I fix at least one t-maxx a week with shifting problems and 9 out of 10 only take a good tune to get them shifting right, so before you get so hot to "garentee that!!!", maybe you should actually know what you're talking about.
