E-Revo Conversion?
I am looking at converting my revo to a lipo, brushless monster. I don't want to use the gorilla maxx kit, or have to buy an e-maxx tranny. Can anyone recommend an electric motor mount besides the one from rc monster? (they are out of stock now and don't know when they'll be in) Any feedback would be appreciated.
|
Tekno rc has a brushless set-up on their site. I'm not sure when it will be available. They show to be out of stock right now but it looks to be a pretty tough set-up.
|
Not that it matters but why would you want to convert?
|
Why not? It's something different and would be fun to try. I enjoy driving all my electric cars ten fold compared to my revo, so why not turn that into electric. I haven't enjoyed the nitro experience one bit.

Quieter, faster, cleaner, and far less headaches. unoversace- I might be able to help you out, pm if interested. |
well considering you can get a e tranny for like $20 on ebay, thats probly the cheapest route. but if you dont wanna do that and rc monster doesnt have them in, you could fabricate one yourself...or get someone to for you.
|
So i bought an e-maxx tranny for a good price, try this for now. Do I need to turn it into a single speed diff? Do I look at buying the single speed conversion from rc monster? Any one else who has done this, I would appreciate any info from your experience. TX

Blue Groove RC Concepts has an E-Revo conversion kit that allows the use of 11.1v and your current Revo setup.

that and 40 + min run times rcm has the motor mounts in stock right now i got one of those i used my stock revo tranny and locked it into second. locking into second requires time and 3 screws that cost about $2 or so idk about the emaxx tranny and bought a sheet of cf to make platforms for batteries reciver and esc + bec. if you need any help lmk i just finished my conversion (- the lipo, but its coming, im suffering with 12 cells right now lol) edit: fyi im running a feigao 9XL, mm esc, ubec, and for now 12 cells, as soon as i get the money im going to get a 4s2p 8000 true rc lipo and a superbrain 989 charger. and ive already got a hyperion balancer. pics http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/S7300272.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/S7300279.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/S7300280.jpg vid http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...-Revo_Test.jpg heres an older pic with no electronics, except the receiver, showing the cf plates http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/S7300210.jpg |
Well I have several vehicles (Nitro & brushless) and for me the brushless was just something different and not available at the time. Also, with a brushless truck, you just throw in a battery and your good to go with no bothers (noise) from the neighbors. I had an EMAxx with a Novak HV system and it was a great basher. But then I got a Revo and it handled sooo much better, I had to have an electric version, so I converted one to brushless and I was not dissappointed. On my E-Revo I retained the Revo tranny, because it is stronger, has an semi-automatic 2-speed and I can retain the mechanical brakes.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r...k413/top-4.jpg Here is the lastest version of my E-Revo. 4S2p lipo, Feigao brushless motor Mamba Max ESC. Faster than any Nitro monster truck out there. http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r...ark413/001.jpg Here is an earlier version of my E-Revo next to my Nitro Revo which is in the process of a big block upgrade (i.e. no motor). http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r...rmountfull.jpg This is an earlier version of my E-Revo, using 6 cell packs in a side-by-side battery mount and using the Novak HV system. |
So I ended up buying a gorilla max chassis and doing my conversion that route. Just got it running a day or two ago and let her rip for a little today. This truck is insane, blows away my revo that was nitro. Will post some pics and maybe a vid soon. Again, this is unreal compared to my nitro revo.
|
yeah but i cant afford that big of a motor and you have to use motors with a 5mm armature to fit that kit dont you? the pinion wont fit on a 3mm one. and i dont want to pay that $140 or however much it cost.
|
im about to convert mine and was going to use the stock chassis. my question is... e-maxx or revo tranny? either way im going to be using a VXL system on a 5000 3s lipo pack. running it in my brothers maxx is absolutely amazing. it is the fastest truck i have ever seen(in real life) it outruns my revo 3.3 by a mile. probly a 50+mph truck. but which tranny? which one is lighter and which would give me the best speeds? the only problem i see with the revo tranny is the fact that it is 2 speed. wouldnt the sudden drop in rpms be bad for an electric motor?
|
I used that tekno kit, and it was pretty easy and fast
with MM and 9XL motor I haven't gotten the right battery setup yet, but once I get that done it should fly on one 7 cell pack, it's pretty slow (as to be expected) |
wow it just posted above my last post. thats weird...

well i think ive decided to go the money cheater route and build it with the tekno rc conversion. i was gonna get the fiego. which one is better? 7, 8, or 9? what is the difference in them? and how will they do with a mamba max esc and a 3s lipo pack?
|
i got the 9xl, its in the middle, nice power, and wheelies like crazy even with 12 cells
mm esc and 3s lipo will be ok if you have a balancer, you can get one at rc-m for $30 or so |
i already have a lipo battery charger and balancer. i run lipo with my VXL in my e-maxx. how does the numbering go. is it just like a normal brushless. lower number is more speed and less torque? and i know the mamba will be fine, im talking about performance. will the motors still pull hard? i know some people run on 12 cells. but a 3s is equal to what 10 cells? so how would that do?
|
anybody have an answer to my question? i would really like to know if i would need to get a new battery and order it all together

Hi streetracer745,
Go with the Feigao 8XL on 4s w/ Mamba Max ESC (use a BEC). It's the best bang for the buck by far. We've been running a similar setup for months with great results. If you're looking to set speed records, a 4 or 5s and a Neu 1515/1.5D will do the trick, but you'll need a more robust ESC to do that. The Feigao 8XL/4s/Mamba is a great starting point. Feel free to email us with any questions. Hope we're not too late on this one. Thanks. |
my problem is price.... i actually ended up with the novak system. i found the 4.5 for CHEAP and tis brand new. so i went with it. ive heard great thigns and novak has great support so i think itll be fine. im not looking for too much. i do want something fast adn lots of torque though... hope this thing works for what i want.... will be using the tekno kit as well...
|
Vey nice!
i didnt understand which brushless motor and esc you are using ?? plz link me up!... i want to get a revo and converte her to brushless... i will use the tekno rc which battary your are using Thank you Bar. |
Can someone please explain how to use the factory brake setup in conjunction with a brushless setup? I'm confused on how that is wired or setup on the radio.
|
well i had planned on getting the novak system. but then after running my emaxx some with a vxl and 3s. all i can say is its damn fast. it has the tires balloning like crazy and can flip over backwards wherever it can get traction. standing backflips. so im gonna use it in my revo and try it. if it doesnt satisfy, thats when ill end up with the hv maxx. if i had the hv maxx, id use twin 5000 2s maxamps. now im using a single 8000 3s maxamps.
|
i realy liked the VXL
i dont want to use lipo there is other option? like 8 to 12 cell nimh battary? thank you Bar. |
up to 10 cell nimh. which is 12V, which will probly be slightly faster than a 3s lipo since it only makes 11.1V.lipoe or 10 cells, its balistic IMO. sure its not a feigao or neu or hv system, but for the price it is and the power it makes, i dont complain. its pretty damn amazing. it turns my badlands on my e-maxx into friggin saucers. tires baloon so much its crazy.
|
ok thanks man
Bar. |
im in a predicament. i have the money to get a mamba max, twim 2s lipo to make 4s total(so i can use them in other trucks too) and a GP Ammo 36-56-1800(feigao 8-9L comparison). but i already have my vxl system which is balls to the wall in an e-maxx. insanely fast and tons of torque. should i go for the ammo/mamba or should i try my vxl out first?
|
Hi! I'm going to convert my Revo into brushless i've already got the motor (Feigao 6XL) and i've ordered a 4s lipo 5000 and Mamba Monster Max.
My question is about the MMM. I have placed my order on wait for the moment because the guy from Bishop Power Products told me that Castle Creations were making a MMM version 3. Should i wait for MMM V3 or should i just go for the MMM V2?? Please inform me so i can order. Thank you very much for helping me. Cyrus |
re e-revo conversion
although the traxxas velineon system is a very fast setup its meant for smaller lighter trucks like the stampede, jato etc. putting it in a much heavier truck like the e-revo would probably make it overheat and eventually fail. even traxxas doesnt recommend putting the velinieon systerm in a revo or e-revo .
your much better off going with the mamba monster max esc and a good brushless motor like a neu or a feigao . as far as waiting for the version 3 of the mmm id just buy the version 2 and then you can update to the new firmware found on the v3 anyways through your castle link program. |
Im actually running a MM wit ha Mega ACn22/30/1 with the 5mm shaft. Its pretty insane. I am going to be getting the MMM soon but need to get new batteries first... I ran the velineon in my e-maxx for a while on 3s and it pushed it absolutely fine. never thermaled it. But I am sure it couldnt push my revo which weighs more now and is running a clutch.

There is more than just firmware diff between v2 and v3 MMM. The case is new and they changed some parts on the brainboard. Castle has implied that most of the failures of v1 and v2 should be fixed with the new firmware release.
I bought a v2 and I'm just going to send it back for a v3. The case on the v2 needs modding where the wires for switch enter - case rubs thru wires and they can short out and the inside base of the case rubs the bottom of the board eventually causing probs and internal BEC has continued to be a prob with v2. I would wait. The 6XL (and 7XL) have a rep for running hot so with better cooling on the MMM thats the one I'd go with too. |
