Default HPI Savage V2?

Savage Reboot?

Interesting news from a once great and now nearly irrelevant company. The Savage is back, but is it with updates or a revised platform?

I've had a few over the years and loved them, but parts availability has been an issue in recent years. This version appears to have new 17mm wheels, but the front right hub seems to follow the same familiar formula. The suspension durability was never really a problem for me, but a revised LCG chassis and single battery pack without radio relocation would be welcome.

That would be cool but if anything, I'd be a 1/6th size. Big Squid is ASSUMING the hexes in that image are 17mm and while they may end up being correct, it's an assumption none the less.

I like the Savage platform but the truck to beat would be the almost truly bulletproof Hobao Hyper MT Plus.

Same plastic shock towers which have been a weak link for over a decade as they bend under hard bashing which in turn causes the TVP to bend, same plastic shocks, arms, braces, same TF-41 radio which while solid, is old, etc. At least the TF-42 radio rx could handle 2s lipos, that radio came included with the last version of the nitro XL (which I owned) and it's never been seen again.

At this rate, a 1/8 Savage XL size should be priced around $1k. The only good news here is that there appears to be a nitro variant as well. The bad news is the crazy price.

Still to this day nobody has been able to recreate bulletproof differentials like the flux hp used to have and that’s what I loved about the savage . I was hoping to get rid of my current basher the maxx 4s and get these in nitro and electric but that at that price it’s a huge turnoff . Plus the body is hideous that’s my number one gripe about my maxx 4s is the hideous body as well. Oh well I guess I’ll just wait a year and pick up a used one . Sorry hpi you done screwed up this time.

I'll probably get one. I'm also probably the only one that will!

I was interested until I saw that price. I have always been a Savage fan but at that price it should have a few more extras.

Used to have a Savage 25 nitro back in the day. Kind of want one of these for nostalgia but can see these being a slow seller unfortunately.

Sorry but Werner Sline has more than proven that the diffs on the Hobao MT Plus 2 are probably the best diffs to date. I killed 2 sets of diffs on my FLUX HP 6S back in the day.

that’s crazy , we used to beat the crap of out savage hp’s and would have spider gear failure hear and there but never ring and pinion .

I like the changes they made the Savage Flux. It is about time that it gets hex hardware and true 17mm hex for the wheels. I could be wrong, but it looks as though they managed to get both the motor and gearbox fully between the chassis plates this time without any cutouts...the original had the motor sticking out the side and then the XL had gears sticking out the side LOL. What gives me some confidence is that this demonstrates that HPI is producing new product, not just distributing new old stock. It will be really interesting to see how this stacks up against the competition from Arrma which really grabbed the basher market while HPI ownership kept getting passed around.
