My Old E-Maxx
I just pulled this thing out of the shed after it sat there collecting dust for over 10 years.
I forgot what a beast this thing is. Fast Lane Chassis GA bulks GA diff cases Titanium skids (I forgot who made them) Unlimited Engineering steering Hitec 5955TG steering servo All aluminum gears for the 2 speed transmission (I forget who made those too) All steel shafts and CV's Oversize wheels and tires Everything else is RPM So, I need a motor and ESC combo. I'm thinking of going 6S this time. If I remember correctly a lot of guys at the track were starting to go 6s when I was getting out. Better run times and less fires from what I understand. We had lots of fires back in the day with the crazy mods we did to the old Mamba Max to get it to run 4s in our converted 1/8 scale gas buggies converted to electric. I was going to try to run two 3s packs. I need to refresh my electrical/battery knowledge. I can't remember the whole series or parallel thing. So I need a motor/esc combo that will support 6S lipo batteries https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...4bafa9781f.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...d012afca99.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...99b25deb4e.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...cb0c446e66.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...80cc950709.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...4d0be0d5ba.jpg Anyway, I'd appreciate any comments or advice to help me get this thing rolling again. |
Hopefully my old Hyperion charger and blinky will still work okay.
I still have my Futaba T3PM that seems to light right up like it's ready to go. I also took the Castle 2200 and mamba monster from my truggy. Not sure if it still works actually and I don't have any batteries to test it. Maybe I should just buy a couple of 3s packs and wire them in series and see what it does. What is a good 3s battery to buy these days? Thanks  https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...1305e8b57e.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...bee2d10b6f.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...19563232b6.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...43f257fdb2.jpg |
I also found this old cage for the 3906. Remember these?
I forgot the name of the guy that made them. Mine broke/cracked in a couple of spots. I thought about making a custom crawler out of this thing for years but I never did. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...cad42cb546.jpg |
I believe RC Raven made cages, although that one pictured looks like it might be an old New Era. Your setup looks like a blast from the past and brings back some memories. For batteries, I would order some SMC's or some Turnigy packs if you are on a budget. These will get you back to rolling quickly. Everything else should still work (I used one of those Hyperion chargers as well). Remember to keep track of which pack you use per side and alternate them each run/charge cycle.

Can anyone refresh my memory on the thread pitch on the slipper clutch on the 3906?
There is 32p and 48p which I understand. But, what is Mod 1? I remember the term but I don't know what it means. I need a pinion that will fit on the bigger shaft motors. 5mm? I have a few with the right pitch but they have too small a hole to fit the shaft of my 2200kv Castle. I also have a few that fit the motor but not the right pitch for the slipper. Thoughts? https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...5978b100db.jpg |

I use to have an MBX5 setup for going fast in the street and an MBX6 for racing. They are awesome vehicles. :) |
So is the Traxxas slipper clutche on this thing a 48p or 32p?

Spur
I looked up the manual.... got a part number for spur (optional) 5969 or something. Then looked up that part number and in the description is says "mod .8" it also showed mod .8 on the side of spur in the photos.
best i can do. ( and it could be for the nitro version for all i know) good luck! |
There's conflicting info about this online, one site says it's 32dp, the next says it's Module 0.8 and so on.
The two are really similar though and most people say there're pretty much interchangeable with 32dp being Module 0.7938 or the other way around Module 0.8 being 31.7653dp. |
I've run 32p pinions in my .8 mod Tamiyas for a few years now without issues.
|
Original was 32p.
