Motor replacement help

My son has a Traxxas Stampede 2x4. I put the Traxxas Velineon brushless system in it a couple years ago. After some upgraded driveshafts everything has worked pretty well. I guess he has taken the waterproof thing a little too far and ruined the motor. My question is, what size is that Velineon 3500 motor? The replacement from Traxxas is $99. I’m pretty sure I can get something from Tower or Horizon for much less. I just don’t know what to look for.
Thanks, Micah

Motors come in all different sizes, some are really small, some are really big. What motor would be a good replacement for the Velineon brushless motor.

The only "size" that fits in a 1/10 scale rc car is a 540 motor. Thats just the length of the can in cm.
Any 1/10 brushless motor will work as long as the turn limit matches the esc. So what were talking about here is turn or kv? Is that what you mean?

The Traxxas Stampede 2x4 most likely came with a Traxxas Titan 12t 550 brushed motor. That motor can be found on numerous Traxxas vehicles with brushed motors including the 2wd Slash and the 4wd 1/10 scale 4-Tec 2.0 on-road vehicle.

The number you see most often on brushless motors is the KV rating of the motor or how much power the motor has. Please refer to page #10 of this .pdf from Traxxas that list the specs for the Velineon 3500 motor.

https://traxxas.com/sites/default/fi...X_manual_0.pdf

Here are some basic specs if you don't have the ability to view the pdf file...
Velineon 3500 motor
- Sensorless
- RPM/Volt: 3500 (10-turn)
- Max RPM: 50,000
- Diameter: 36mm (540 size)
- Length: 55mm

Hope this info helps.

Most turn motors need a sensored system so you need a KV motor. Any motor with matching ratings will do. 3500 kv is pretty fast. Probably too fast for a Stampede!! Anything more and your melting diffs.
