Default Missing the nitro

I gotta be honest I love my truggys and my buggy but I really miss my nitro monstah trucks it’s a shame I can’t buy a new losi truck and have the option for nitro I get the ease of use and all that but nitro is much more appealing and I honestly think nitro puts that spark in your head when you see hear or smell one I remember the first time I saw one in the snow and was in awe that was around 1991 fast forward to my first savage and it was just so exciting to prep and go out and run the wheels off the truck and now being back after a long hiatus due to adulthood it’s sad to see it’s pretty much gone is there still part support for any of the older trucks ? I’d buy used if I can atleast have part support

T-maxx still has plenty of part support(and aftermarket too) and they still make them.

Kyosho is still pushing nitro, the Mad Crusher GP looks like and awesome solid axle nitro truck and has gotten terrific reviews.

Default Nitro

I'm actually in the market for a good old nitro monster. All I am finding are out of stock or discontinued. Anything worth while has now gone electric. I am kinda eyeballing the hobao mt sport plus nitro rtr. I have found they have a good part support... online that is. And a site that has them in stock at $505 which isn't bad. Wish I could find a new savage nitro but they are electric. It's a sad day lol. Have you found any good leads on this? I'm itching for some real 4 wheeling. I see trax still has the revo fyi but it's 1/10 scale. I'm looking for 8th myself.

Just buy a good nitro truggy. I too love nitro monster trucks. You can get a truggy and have a lot of fun running it with Proline mulchers instead of track tires. If you really want the monster truck feel/handling, put monster truck tires on the truggy and get a smaller clutch bell. This will keep you from smoking the clutch shoes. Any 1/8 monster truck body can be put on a truggy as well. I know Savages and LST’s are cool 😎 I’ve had them and really liked them. But truggys are actually more durable, handle better, and they can run ANY nitro engine available because they don’t need a pull start/ drill start. Once you go bump box, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner. Nitro engines start so easy on a bump box and the engine choices are endless. I’m not against nitro monsters because I too really like them. In the end you can get the same driving experience only better in my opinion out of a truggy set up as a monster truck.

The Hobao is the best thing I could find as well. I'm wondering if they will make a new version to match the new Hyper MT Plus II.

I have the losi 8ight truggy and it is very fun. I may have to look into some aggressive tire combos.

Yeah the hobao plus 2 is unfortunately going to be electric only as of now.

Looks like we are out of options.

Just get some MT tires for that truggy! It’s alot of fun! You just gotta make sure to gear down a little to save your clutch. It’ll still go just as fast because the MT tires are bigger around. Instead of buying another MT, get some big tires, ( like Trenchers) for that truggy. Then get a big nitro engine for it!! A .28 or .30! Wheelie city! My mill of choice is the LRP .30X. Not sure if it’s still around, but extra power is a lot of fun!😎

it is really sad the decrease in Nitro MTs, have a few MGT's (3.0, .21, 4.6) and an LST1.5, my favorite trucks to run. luckily you can get parts still, but mostly ebay.
Savage- decent parts support, mostly going to be buying off ebay though. very popular truck so lots of parts trucks around.
MGT (.21-4.6)- so far the only items i had issues finding is parts for the .21 pro engine, and forward only conversions. (very simple to make though) mostly through ebay still. aluminum upgrades are mostly down to GPM and Integy, only thing id recomend going Al. on is the Hub carriers (does eat bearings faster though) and diffs, maybe shock towers too. (AE Rival is pretty close to the same, just chassis, and trans are different.)
LST- probably the best parts support still going for it because most of the parts are the same between the XXL, XXL-e etc. 20mm (LST-2) wheels are a hassle though, recommend swapping to 17mm. 420 series wheels/tires are 40 series with a 20mm hex. amain and horizon still carry most parts that would break.
T-maxx- still made, with what traxxas has been doing lately business-wise and the quality and price of their vehicles though i do not recommend. no longer the cheaper way to get into the hobby
Revo- same boat as the T-maxx
i know its HSP/exceed but the Mad Beast, i hear is actually really decent. (also sold by RD Logics as the "wolverine" )

Well I pulled the trigger today and bought myself me first electric. Not proud of myself. I figured I would just get a cheap basher and spend the winter building the nitro mt of my dreams. Once I figure out what it is. But I picked up a arrma kraton 6s v4. What are some of your dream nitro mt?

That pretty much kills this thread! Have fun with the Kraton! It should be a good truck from what I’ve read. Make no mistake, 6s will kill your diffs, unless you’re easy on the throttle. The power of electric is cool, after awhile it gets boring though. Nitro rules 👹😜

electric is fun, just gets old after awhile for me. there is no getting it to tune after warming up, dialing the tune in then having the satisfaction of bashing on a good tune.
My dream MT is probably either the XTM X-Factor 2, or a Savage.
always wanted a savage but money and availability never lined up for me. first time i was looking for a savage i found what is now my MGT for 175$ on ebay and had been upgraded quite a bit. second time i was looking for one i ended up finding my LST1.5 for 150$. lol who knows what deal ill find next time when i look for a savage.

Sounds like I need to look for a savage lol. Yeah just got this thing to play in the snow really... a savage is kinda what I am leaning on. They still have a good part availability. And yes nitro rules!!! I took it out in the snow last night. To be honest I do find it straight line fun but there is no throttle control. It's all or nothing and I really dont like that at all. Other then being a torque monster and quite for the Neighbors. I will take my losi truggy over this anyday.

That and I never realized how expensive the batteries and chargers are for these things. I dont care what people say nitro isn't more expensive.
