Default 1/18 scale vehicles for racing

I am looking to see what is out there for vehicles that are competent (or can be) for racing.

The class is 1/18 scale open on carpet, no jumps.

Pretty much the AE line of vehicles is the default here, but curious if there is anything else out there other than say Xray if you can find it.

Also, anyone know a source for 1/18 scale hard cased lipos?

I personally am finding the old losi mini t's to be great on carpet. 2wd and low to the ground. Put BSR foam tires, hobbywing Brushless kit, and 2s lipo battery. Drives like 1/10 pan cars.

right now i am thinking of the latrax rally here a bit more. mainly as i am looking to see if a vehicle at this price point could maybe generate some interest in eventually going to a spec class format of these vehicles or at least offer someone looking to try rc a cheap entry point.

how about the dromida line?

I like the Dromida's. Lots of adjustments and hop-ups. little quick brushed stock but a brushless hobbywing set up or stock brushless is worth it. we got a track and we run 2 spec classes for them and we get a good turnout.

I agree I got my kids Dromidas the Bx and the Mt. I got rid of my mini 8ight. My daughters bx is way more fun. If you go brushless, you HAVE TO upgrade to the aluminium spur gear and dogbones.

I havent had any bad luck with the aluminum spur gears but dogbones for sure. and a hitec 55mg servo wont hurt either

cool. do they use the same type of wheels like the RC18s or do they have 12mm hexes?

also read that the latrax teton uses 12mm hexes, so curious in that regards could use some 12mm sedan foams.

They sell the 12mm aluminum hex adapters. I can't recall but I think they were like $6. I threw on the mini 8ight tires on the bx.

On eBay if you search 12mm hex rc tires you can get a ton of different tires and rims. Most of them are under $10 for all 4 tires. Comes with everything just have to glue them

thanks, so the dromida's have the option of 12mm hex, thats great news.

Now, as far as upgrades for carpet racing, any suggestions for those vehicles or a particular one to start with?

Used to race the HPI Micro RS4 years ago. It was a ball. The Xray M18 came out and made the Micro RS4 obsolete.
I've been considering buying a Mini Z indoor track to put in the garage. Would love to run something 1/18th instead of the Mini Z as it doesn't seem to have much support here in the US.

yeah, the mini'z to me would be great as they don't take up much room at all and for the money its not outrageous.
