Default My CEN Mini Madness - now with brushless setup

Haven't been on here in yeeeaaaaarrrrssssss lol. Have been out of the RC loop for a while now. Anyway, I dug out my CEN Mini Madness. Original battery/motor lasted only 2-3 minutes before dying out. So, got a new motor and a new battery. Motor is an Atomik Fireball 13d Modified, and battery is Venom Power 8.4v 5000mah NiMH. So I charged up the battery, installed new motor, went to go give it throttle to start breaking in the motor...but all I got was a smoking/burnt up ESC lol. It's the stock ESC300 CEN ESC. So I'm assuming this CEN ESC cannot handle the setup haha. Any ideas what ESC will hold up to this setup? Thanks.

So I decided to just go with a brushless setup lol. Onyx kit with a 3930kv motor. Going down in pinion teeth will reduce torque, correct? It can't handle full throttle from start, it just backflips right away lol.

The front suspension is not liking the power. Arms keep popping off, since they are worn out. So the brushless system is being pulled out to be put in the HPI RS4 Pro 2 I'll be picking up today.
