In Mario kart they have speed boost type things on the track that give you a burst of speed, I'm not talking about the mushroom pick ups, but the little boosters on the track, is there a way to build a real life version of this for a micro sct track, would some sort of belt work?

lol i like the idea but it would probably not work all that well. A belt would be the best bet but most people would probably just avoid it as the change in traction would probably mess people up more then it helped. You never know tho! I say build it!

Its an interesting idea, I think if you had sensors on the track andin the cars then you could control the ESC of a car (when it drove over a track sensor). I thimk for it to work well you would have to dial down the speed of all cars, then driving over a boost would increase the speed to say a normal 380 brushed motor (too fast and you'd just spin out). You could likewise have sensors that slowed down cars and temporarily stopped cars.
BUT,
I think racing with a group of others is already pretty fun.
I could see something like this being feesable in the Tamiya Mini class where speeds are already pretty low.
