New HPI Micro RS4
http://www.bigsquidrc.com/wp-content...ock_rc_car.jpg
This looks pretty cool. More at: http://www.hpiracing.com/en/kit/111224 A little bummed about the 180 motor, though, maybe a 380 can be squeezed in there. Still, looks awesome, we'll have to see how it performs :) |
If that's the standard Micro RS4, there were several Big Block kits available IIRC. All it needed was a new motor plate.
edit: $160 @ Towerhobbies, available mid september... |
All I know these were fun just running around the house. And now parts support is back to those who are running out of wheels and tires...
|
FINALLY. A new source of tires.
|
These cars were great and I'm glad to see them come back. If there had been a good national organization for Micro cars at the time, this scale really could've taken off. Looks like I'll have to find another rs4.
|
Do you guys remember that forum for micro rc cars? It was pretty popular...
|
I no longer run my MiniQuake for fear of breaking parts I may not be able to find. I'm definitely going to get getting one of these RS4s, it'll be great, especially if I can put that 380 in it.

After all these years, it's the same car! That's pretty cool. The Micro RS4 is another car I wish I had never sold, especially now that parts will be coming back for it! Still belt driven I see. Mine had a Graupner Speed... 300? 380? One of those... it has been a while. All I know is it was silly fast and was capable of some amazing drifts, long before drifting became so popular. This is the perfect body for the way that chassis handles. I had a Murcielago body on mine. I miss that little car.

Time for my preorder! |

there were a couple of good ones. Many of the European sites offered some great parts like custom alloy wheels. Time to do some surfing to see if anyone is still around. |
this is great news. I have 2 of them needed some new tires. and new hop ups.. This is great.
They are great to have flying around the house.. |
You all sure its exactly the same? Those rims look like they actually bolt on like an m18 pro. Also maybe this means getting rubber tires again for the m18 pro for when Hpi stopped production, rubber tires were scarce.
Edit: Nm just looked closer at the wheel. Unless Im mistaken that's a black rim behind the spokes . Hpi could at least have upgraded that.... |
HPI calls 1/18th micro? Sheesh!
|
Looks like they have a drift setup coming out as well:
http://www.bigsquidrc.com/wp-content...er-640x273.jpg This may be a sweet lineup, a little something for everyone :D |
I'm pretty sure they had previously released it as a drift set-up with a Toyota AE86 body and the hard plastic tires.
I had a few of them and still have one but, it just sits on the shelf now. I had a Penguin chassis one, an Aktion 540 set-up and a Ratza chassis in the past. Foam tires for them are still available and a few of my buddies still run completely hopped up ones in the winter, I run a M18 with them. It's too bad they didn't update the design any. |

I knew if I held off selling my high-dollar aftermarket Micro RS4 chassis long enough they'd make a comeback! Time to dust 'em off and get ready to race!!
|
It should be fun to pop in a HW ez-run 1/18 brushless system in these. :D
|
|
Never had the rs4, but the xray m18 pro was fun. Too much power with brushless combo, still a good 40 minutes with 1400mAh lipo, shaft transmission holding really well to brushless abuse. Even managed to fit a 1:10 servo (don't do that). Too bad I had to trade it.
I think the rs4 shares the same wheels with the m18 non-pro? The ones that you press on that "dishes" and than have a really hard time taking down? |
Looks like parts support is back! I still have two original MRS4s from 2001, and have been discouraged by not having new parts available; I just hope we'll have more rubber tires and the suite of bodies.

6.2V Battery
I am still a bit new to the hobby in my current life, so was wondering what type of battery the 6.2 V quoted one is? I obviously did a bit of googling and it usually comes with a silver oxide type battery, but is this really the case?
Regards |
I'd say it's a typo and they meant 6.0v (5 cell NIMH) or 7.2v (6 cell NIMH) probably 6.0v as this was an option part for the original kits. It is most likely a 2/3A pack. It used to come with a plastic holder for AAA or AA's so, I guess that is an upgrade. :)
|
Thanks mikedw, sounds very plausible.
Regards |
I love how the VERY old HPI logo is still emblazoned on the car on top of the front suspension. HPI didn't change ANYTHING for this kit. That is just silly.

I just wish they made a kit for it, instead of being RTR.
Last thing I need is another cheap radio. |
I don't know about latrax killer. Once again side by side scale is off. Much like a rc18 compared to a MRS4, the latrax is larger.
I'm with you on the tx/rx. I still have a stock AM one that came with my first one in a giant box of other cheap radios. At least it is 2.4 now. |

As for the cheap radios, I plan to donate any RTR RX/TX combos to my local racing program where we rent cars to newcomers. They're stuck with AM radios now, I'm sure a few 2.4s would be received nicely. |

I think it actually makes perfect sense. They saw Traxxas come up with the LaTrax and wanted to compete. They already had the tools and die sets to make the RS4, they also know there is a big market sentiment for the chassis, so it cost them $0 in R&D to re-release it. Put a new body on it, take some sweet pictures and they now have a "LaTrax killer". HPI are a smart business.
The $100 Micro SCT/Rally from Losi is a better all-around platform than this, and it is even a smaller scale. For a 1/18th car, it should have oil-filled shocks, slipper clutch, and bolt-on wheels. The Micro RS4 is archaic. |
Ya the scale is all over the place, they need to fix that. So, you have to compare it to a M18 which is the same size. A box stock M18 is far better than the MRS4 and I'm not using the M18 pro as a comparison. They could have at least put the set-up in to use a micro servo and get away from tape or shoe goo to hold the bigger servo in. No ball diff, no front one-way just more plastic spider gears. Comparing it to the latrax isn't fair to the MRS4. I liked my MRS4s but, they required too many upgrades and fixes to get them running good. They may sell some based on sentiment but, those will be shelf queens. If you want to race them, as Typhoon said they need a lot of work.
The quick fix for the tires is to cut the spokes from the rim or drill a hole in dish rims to access the hub screw then glue the tires to the hubs. They're just jumping on the release something old band wagon. |

Forum Rule's/ Guidelines FAQs Member Introduction's GUEST'S PLEASE READ They got it right in "Guidelines and FAQs" but maybe they should read up on The Oatmeal before they try to take it big time. |
Traxxas likes to make big cars. Their 1/10 are more like 1/8, and 1/16 more like 1/12-1/14 (nowadays they put 550 brushed motors in those 1/16 chassis, they run with normal 12mm 1/10 wheels - only the servo and batteries are smaller)

Meh, they can't even get their apostrophe placement figured out. Very amateurish.

your on a forum that doesn't use them in their category titles either. What point are you making? Lol.
That's the point that I'm making, and that you completely missed it. **woosh** It's nice that they're paying attention though, they fixed their mistakes. Gotta give them credit for that instead of coming back with a rebuttal. |
