my steel pinion arrived today all the way from australia....no more slipping plastic pinion :D

I bought my RS4 parts from dollarhobbyz. The drift tires that came on the Green Vaughn Gittin Jr S1 Wheels were all the same width.

Mine is also the Vaughn Gittin JR

Congrats on the pinion! Put that super glue in the drawer

Yeah, they are still selling the drift tires (just tires) in in packages with narrow front and wide rear. Not much planning in the parts for relaunch.

If you buy the new rims and drift tires together, they seem to be all wide.

Can anyone comment on difference between wide and narrow up front?

Was thinking of just getting a second set of rims to have matching wides all
around and have easy access to new rubber tires...

on the drift tyres, having narrow up front seems to make little difference tbh...it still puts the power down fairly evenly, i guess as the hard plastic tyres are so low-friction in the first place, that the difference in width isn't making much of a practical difference.

i find changing the wheels on these an absolute nightmare, occasionally one gets really stuck onto the hub, had to actually dremel one off the other day!

Going to fit that new pinion on the weekend and swap to rubber tyres for a bit of high speed car park japery....i find you can get some really nice long fast drifts with the rubbers.

designforlife 10-07-2014 12:39 AM

oh and yeah mine came with drift tyres all the same width (liveried up mustang), but the replacement packs are still staggered, as are some sets of 4 wheels.

No thought has really gone into the parts relaunching, clearly!

I been messing around with my mrs4 roller I bought. So far it has a mamba micro pro 4100kv 0808 system, hitec mini servo with hpi's servo mount and servo saver (I got really lucky finding this), and 2s lipo. I put the electronics on bottom because it was less messy and the lipo seemed so light that I put it on top.

I can't post a pic because I don't have enough posts.

My drift tires are staggered. I bought the wheels and drift tires separately, my roller didn't include them.

I'm new to the RS4 and drifting. Should I run the solid drive kit on both the front a rear? I'm running the stock electronics. How wide should I set the track width front and rear? All of my rubber and drift tires are the same width.

Richterat83 10-07-2014 10:48 AM

Also a noob.
I bought both front and rear locked setup, but i'm going to try just locking the rear first to see how it goes and then i'll do the fronts once the steel dogbones get here.

and special noobness i realized one locked setup includes the front and rear. So i have an extra set

I'm no expert on drifting, but the most common suggestions I've heard are;
locked front diff and metal cvd/axle. I can only add, clean the house well if you have pets! The micro's rear axle definitely doesn't like pet hair:weird:

I've only had used ball diffs already built so not sure of problems that might occur. The used ones I'm running haven't had issues though...

Yeah, I was really baffled at the wheel situation. They seemed to either pop off while expectantly during road use or never want to come off : ) Lucked out in the end and found some aluminum wheels for cheap in a parts package. You may want to keep an eye out for them. They don't have the width width adjustments, but feel like proper RC wheels! Best to find them on a cheap parts car or something; otherwise they can be expensive. These were labelled HCR, Hardcore Racing, but i believe they are just GPM wheels.

Another quick note : )
Ordered some chassis from blazerss.
They arrived today and are sweet!
You can see them if you go back a few pages in this thread.
He's a good seller if anyone was interested
in getting some.

I would think for drifting you would want to lock both axles.. but I'm not really into that. The old drift tires came in a pack of 4... two fronts & two rears.. I've never owned them... can't tell you if they came up with different part numbers for the new ones. I do have the new rubber tires they come in a pack of 4 all the same... strange no inserts though.

I really wasn't into the alum wheels... but I do have a few. They did offer them with different track widths. Some would say BMW or nothing for narrow track. .. usually they would say Viper if they were for wide track.... there might have been in between widths... idk wasn't my thing.

So can the stock micro RS4 take lipo?
