Caveman's mini 8ight project
Hey guys I just thought I would start a thread showing some of the things to come on my mini 8ight while I am into it.
So far the buggy has been a blast. And honestly its my first buggy ever. Just an fyi I came from a crawler/scale truck back ground. So this is new territory for me.
Right now this is my current list of upgrades.
Losi aluminum hubs/c's/and hex's.
Carbon fiber front and rear shock towers.
Carbon fiber center support.
T-bone front bumper
Custom tires
Traxxas lower shock ends
Red aluminum spring caps
Vxl 380 motor.
Zippy lipo's
If I had to do it again I would get the DP shock towers. I actually like their design better because of the protection they offer.
The vxl will be coming out as soon as my scorpion outrunner gets here.

As I said in the tire thread. I have a set of quality carbon fiber wheels coming made specifically for the mini 8ight!! The first ones will be solid discs. Depending on the testing we may go to a design similar to the picture.
My goal with the mini 8ight is to have a buggy that weighs under 2lbs but has the power of a merv. Between the scorpion motor, carbon fiber chassis I will lose 4 oz!! That is a quarter lb
Custom tires also I will post in this thread. Here is a set of grass tires you may have seen before.
On off road basher tires.
Also I contacted proline about purchasing their aluminum shock caps that fit the mini 8ight shocks. They are 10 bucks a pair. And they are on the way also.
Any comments, advice, ideas please post up. I appreciate all feedback

Alright well I pulled the trigger on a scorpion outrunner.
Really racking my brain on this one. LOL
So this is what I went with.
I talked to the main tech at innov8tive designs and he was more than helpful. I gave him the stock mini 8ight motor specs and he said that this outrunner should have almost 3 times the torque. And it has the same kv.
The motor shaft is just a little beefier at 2.3mm. Which a 3/32 drill bit will make the stock losi pinions fit the new motor. But 2.3 pinions are very common anyways in a 48pitch.
Best thing is the motor weighs about half of a stock motor if you can believe that! And is just a little smaller diameter than a 380 vxl. The can is only 20.5 mm long. So I should have enough room for the esc stuffed in between the motor and the servo.
Will be in friday. Oh, and it was on sale for 41.25!! They have 19 in stock.

If my calculations are correct? This motor should be a direct drop in and react the same as a stock motor.
The differences being a better quality motor, and will pull taller gearing easier have a lot more torque.
Or move larger tires easier. Same thing.
Should run on the stock esc, and batteries. 2 or 3s lipo.

Your logic makes sense. If your tests back up your theories, then I'll bet that "19 in stock" will go to "out of stock" faster than a lap around the track.

Well I hope so. It would be nice to find a quality light weight replacement motor for the mini 8ight that had just a little more torque.

Up to you but I would wait until I tested it this weekend. Just to make certain. I will post a video also. There are a lot stronger options. But I thought their power would be wasted on a mini 8ight. We will see.

Oh, I forgot to tell you there is one draw back to an outrunner.
They have a annoying chirp when you initially take off. LOL
Of course this is with two motors. But you get the idea.

Any idea what the max voltage for the scorpion motor is?
