I’d steer clear of those chop shop ESC’s. Especially on one that’s based on an old design and wasn’t that great to begin with. Hobbyking is usually just cheap clones of other stuff, though there are a few exceptions. A legit HW 16BL30 can be had for less than $20.

Yeah I suppose might as well keep with Hobbywing.

Hi all!
If I look for a sensored brushless motor - are the any alternatives to Leopard 2838 4700KV 4 Pole Sensored Motor?
Or it is the best and only suitable, especially for Monster track short base?

As of right now, the Leopard is probably the best sensored motor for the LC's just due to the size and reliable performance, but there are also smaller 24mm sized motors from Carisma and Hobbyking as well, which I see a lot of racers using. They have one advantage over the Leopard, and that is a removable sensor wire. LC have shown teaser shots of a Hobbywing 2850 sensored motor they are woking on, but nothing has appeared for sale yet. That is the one I am dying to get my hands on.

Hmm, and for what issues or benefits are removable sensor wires usually done? Is it for cases when you have sensorless esc or are there any other reasons to chose it?

Carisma motor has 3mm shaft which will need new pinions (and it is +$25 pricier than Leopard). Do I understand right that the smaller size results in possible heating problems?

And where did you find that teaser from LC - I’d like to subscribe for their news, but in Facebook there were no info about new motors.

pretty sure the motor/esc teaser was on the LC's facebook page, 3-4 months ago.

I am currently running the Leopard sensored motor in my LC Racing EMB-T with the Hobbywing WP10BL60 sensored esc, and this power system is nothing short of amazing in that. It is smooth, runs cool and way more power than this thing really needs. I can do backflips on 2s.

A removable sensor wire is not a mandatory thing, but what I like about it is that if something should happen to it, it is replaceable, unlike the Leopard.

The Carisma is a 24mm motor, true. And yes, the pinion is 3mm so you need to use their pinions. But it is also only $30 on Amazon, so almost half the price of the Leopard. Would the small size be an issue? Perhaps. Almost definitely for the truggy, but there are LOTS of people running the Trakstar clone of this in their buggies and LWB buggies, esp in the European racing circuits. Put a fan on it, and on a small track for mini racing, you're golden. Probably not the best choice for bashing though.

Here's the pics from whatever hobby trade show they showed this at in China around April. I know it's a real Hobbywing motor because I asked and they confirmed it. They did not however tell me if they were working with Hobbywing to offer this exclusively for the LC's or if this was something Hobbywing was working on independently. I'm sure if it *ever* is released as an official product, it will be added to the HW website. One can hope anyway.

Looks pretty damn good! What is the barrel capacitor on the central deck? Is it a voltage protector for esc or smth else? What brand?

Thanks! It's just a glitch buster. Theres lot of brands that make them, but that one is made by Racers Edge. Commonly used when high voltage servos draw to much juice and cause certain receivers to glitch or brown out. I had neither of those issues, but it did improve the feel of the car. I've had people tell me it should make zero difference, but that has not been my experience. Cheap thing to try for yourself.

Blew a bearing out in one of my rear hubs and screw came loose on my diff pinion which in turn chunked my front diff.

And another EMB from Germany. I would like to attach some images, but it seems like I have to create two posts before. Went with the kit and put some ESC and motor from Hobbyking in it.

Well, still not allowed to use images in the post ... But there are four in my profile, album 'My Post Picture'.

First image: Found some direct fit lipos for short wheel base at HK. No modification of the battery holders necessary.
Second: The look won't last long.
Third: Lesson learnt: Never leave your buggies unattended in the basement. And 2WD seems to be recessive.
Fourth: And the electonics' side.

Only issue during the build: I over tightened the screws at the steering posts and the top deck cracked. Steering was to tight and the servo moved the saver some way until the wheels moved. Driving straight ahead? Forget it! Put two shims in there and now it works fine.
