Project Monster Mini 8ight

So today I was bashing my mini 8ight and the bulk head hinge pin retainer cracked after taking one too many high speed jumps so as i started takig it apart i was thinking boy i wish this had a motor with some more guts to it and so begins another build... I had a mini revo/summit that i built a while back chilling since it has a dead esc and a dead servo i decided i could finally find my excuse to breathe new life into that project and make my mini 8ight into a project as well...so heres what we have so far traxxas velineon 380 motor mamba micro pro esc, futaba servo and a whole bunch of wheel and tire combinations and am going to eventually do almost all carbon fiber and the center plate in the mini 8ight is going to be carbon fiber as well...pictures to follow on the mini 8ight and the mini summit/revo well lets finish one project at a time

Okay update time... motor and esc for now is Traxxas velineon 380 and mamba micro pro, i am going to get a sidewinder v2 esc most likely because I feel it will stand up to the abuse a bit better but i am running proline dirt hawgs 2.2 and I also am working on a mini sum8ight style chassis and body set up and will post pictures later, next upgrades include aluminum shock caps and aluminum hexes

Nice! I did a similar thing awhile back but ended up switching back because I preferred the zippyness with the stock tires. I first used the beadlocks, then went with dish rims as they were lighter.

yeah with the motor and gearing i am running she has plenty of raw power and speed she does a standing backflip currently, i should get a video of that or a video of some bashing it but the 380 long can has an incredible amount of torque... and i like the truggy body i am thinking a raptor body would look cool too

That M8 makes me anxious for a possible M8T coming out. It reminds me of the crt.5 by OFNA which I thought about converting to electric several years ago.

I have a feeling I will always be interested in RC cars...I lost interest and got back in the mix a couple of times.

Is there any issues with these wheels and tires rubbing on anything? Is the steering affected at all? Proline now has those titus beadlock wheels in a un-weighted version as well.

I gotta have those bead locks what are they

rustlererad3 09-26-2012 08:02 PM

proline dirt hawgs they are awesome on the truck it has so much traction both on and off road they are the best all terrain tires i have ever run on an rc vehicle hands down, and they dont rub but you definitely have to get used to them before you can really hammer with them on the truck i personally dont think the stock motor and gearing will handle them very well because they are a bit heavier but they are awesome and i bought a mini raptor to do a truggy style mini 8ight with and i also found a truggy body on ebay and bought that as well i couldnt help myself

skyrider it looks your motor probably didn't have enough torque for the extra weight, that was why i went with a long can motor because i knew it would give me a great torque output...bigger heavier wheels require a motor with some meat and did anyone convert to aluminum hubs??

skyrider 09-26-2012 10:39 PM

I geared it lower and my motor gave me plenty of power. I was planning on getting a 28mm can but the 26mm can I had worked pretty well. I just realized I wanted to drive a buggy style car and and less of a truck.
