Default Thinking of making some RC18T beadlocks

Hey all,
I'm an engineering student in collage and I am always way ahead of all the other students which gives me lots of time to work on my own projects. So recently I decided to make some rc18t sized beadlock rims on a 3d design program called Pro Engineer. As of making this post all that I have made up is a rough imitation of the rim since I didn't have the dimensions that I needed at the time. The rim I made is a little bigger and it still weighs in at under 50 grams per rim rings and all. Which is equivalent to about 20 pennies. I'm not sure whether to use a 8mm hex or pin type hub yet so any advice is welcome. I'm hoping to be able to make the exact rim on Monday or Wednesday but i need to get a few tire dimensions first... I don't have any un-glued tires so if someone would be willing to take a few measurements with a caliper that would be awesome!
**see attachment**
I need the distance from side to side of the innermost edge of the bead (from line a to line b), the thickness of the bead (from line c to line d), the width of the bead (from line a to line e) and the diameter on the inside of the bead. **see attachment**

I will probably end up buying a new set of tires to double check the dimensions myself but if i could get them a little sooner than the time it will take me to get to the hobby store (loooong drive and not in a direction I normally go...) that would be awesome.
Any thoughts on design features that you guys think would be cool are welcome or ideas on the design for the face of the rim. I was going to try and make it a split 6 design but the features of the face are the easiest part so changing that is easy

Thanks in advance for the help and ideas

Shea
sorry for the long winded write up...

what size screw are you using for the beadlock and what's the rim material? I'd honestly love to see a nicely machined delrin wheel (and alloy ring)for the rc18sc

use a 12mm hex....that is the standard for 1/10 scale and some mini wheels.
By using this hex you can have more opportunities for the wheels....

In the shop at my school we have some 6061 t6 aluminum round stock which wold be really easy to make the rims out of so I was planning on using that. I've neve worked with delran before but I suppose if I could get my hands on some it wouldn't be very hard to modify the g code for the softer material.

These rims will be machined so there is no way I could decrease the size of the area on the rim around the axle. In order for the hex to be strong enough to not strip out I would need to make at least a 2mm wall thickness around the hex so the inner hub diameter of the rim would be at least 16mm thick... Which would make it kinda heavy... I might have to just stick with pins. If I were to use pins I could even machine away the area on either side of the pin so the inner hub of the wheel would be an oval shape which would make them even lighter.

As for the sc rims... They sound like they're going to be even smaller so it might be kinda hard for the CNC machine to tool it... Smaller parts= smaller bits= easier to break bits... But if you can give me the tire dimensions I can always try and see how it works. Does the sc18 use the same stub axles as the 18t or 18r?

Thanks for the ideas
Shea
