Default Does anyone run the MLST2 anymore?

I have a Mini LST2 that I have had for awhile now, and have put a load of upgrades on. It has to be one of the most enjoyable mini's I have ever messed with. There are a ton of parts out there and if you know what areas to strengthen, they can be really durable. I changed the tranny gears to the all metal set for the Mini T, which is a perfect fit being that they are the same gears, I have shimmed the metal MLST2 front and rear diffs and upgraded the servos to Hitec hs65's, I changed almost every part to aluminum or carbon and even put a Traxxas 1/16 velineon in it (with a custom made motor mount). With my 1500 mah 3s lipo it screams, doing between 50-55mph. I have thought a few times about selling it, but just can't bring myself to do it. So my question is, are there any others out there who love this truck as much as I do and are just afraid to say so because of the bad rap this truck has gotten? I for one am a proud owner and would pit my truck against a MERV any day and eat them for lunch. So come on MLST owners let's hear ya shout out the love for IMOP a very under rated truck.

Love this truck and always looking for ways to make it faster yet keep the bling and durability that the aluminum offers.

Good looking Mini! I've always wanted to deck one out.

lol I didn't think I would be willing to put as much into this truck as I have, but it seemed to be more fun the further I went with it. Thanks for your comment and compliment.

Definitely a nice MLST2. I used to have one a couple years ago... it was the first hobby-grade truck I had bought. Got it secondhand with custom 1/10 scale servo setup in it. When it was running, it was an animal on a LiPo battery - and that was with the stock motors. But, I got tired of fixing it. The diffs liked to strip out and I just didn't feel looking under every last rock for some spring washers that came in less than a pack of 200. The amount of aluminum on it was steadily increasing and I had some good parts on it I shoulda held on to (some Full Force RC stuff that you can't get anymore). I coulda scored another one that was very hopped up (no more factory weaknesses) along with a Castle BL setup and Exotek conversion for less than $100, but at the time I didn't feel like dealing with it since I was moving on to 1/10 scale.

I have a 1/16 Slash that I race every other week, and they are MUCH more prone to breaking suspension parts than an MLST2, not to mention the shocks Losi put on their little monsters actually retain oil unlike the stock Traxxas GTR shocks. I can't tell you how many times I cartwheeled my mini LST without any damage.

If I didn't have 1 monster truck project currently goin on and another planned, I might consider picking up another Mini LST and just put a bulletproof drivetrain in it from the start. Heck, you can get an MLST for $50 or so nowadays since the 1/16 Revos and Summits hit the market.

I bought two, an mlst and mlst2, thinking I could race with my boys from time to time, and of course, the older one loves it and my younger one would rather practice head-shots on Black Ops. Its the first mini(s) I purchased and honestly I love it. For the money Id much rather have this than a toy r/c. Bone stock mlst2, Ive thought about upgrading to aluminum parts but I guess until I start abusing the thing I'll wait and finish our VTA cars instead , put the mlst up for sale and keep this as a little backyard runner.

I very fast became addicted to making my MLST bulletproof and upgrading it. I still have a few upgrades I want to make, but have to say I honestly love this little beast more than any of my other RC projects. I have tried pretty much everything there is to try out there and have to say this thing is still my favorite truck. Once the driveline is upgraded to all metal gears and shimmed properly this truck is pretty much bulletproof and endless fun, with the Traxxas MERV motor and Castle esc in it, it is a serious mini e-revo killer and a ton more durable.

i just got a mlst2. iv read alot about em since i got it. seems the spider gears in the F/R diffs are plastic. and the tranny needs some upgrades to handle some power. and that the servos are crap.its bone stock now and im running some 2200 2s lipos(dont fit at all)

what gears do i need to get?
what servos will fit? different servo savers?

As far as the diffs go, if you're willing to spend $90 on MIP Ball Diffs, then go ahead and do that. However, several guys have put spring washers in the diffs to keep pressure on the gears and keep them from stripping out. There was a good writeup on it on the Beat Your Truck forum. You can make your diffs substantially stronger for less than $5.

As far as the servo goes, you may just want to look into a 1/10 scale servo conversion. It replaces the 2 smaller servos (which fight each other and then burn out) with a single 1/10 servo which you won't have any trouble with. Exotek makes a nice conversion kit, but if you have a little time and some tools (incl. a Dremel) you can do the conversion yourself.

ITs alotta fun when its running but its too expensive to make it durable. I dont evens see how guys can use brushless this thing is unstable with just a lipo battery.lol.

guess i need to give up on minis, dont think ill ever find one i can beat on with out spending a mint to build first
