Default Help with first car, please.

Hello all, first post. I am planning on buying a Losi Mini Desert Buggy. It will just be a recreational basher - I don't plan to do any racing yet. It comes with a battery and charger, but I would like to add a higher capacity pack and a quick charger.

What are my options for some good, but inexpensive aftermarket battery packs and chargers for this vehicle? I see Losi has an option, but figure that may be more expensive for their branding.

Any help or suggestions at all will be appreciated. Thanks!

Default batteries

if all you are doing is bashing go for the cheapest ones you can find. If you have money and want the best then go to lipo.

Default Thanks for the help

dwmoore21, I know you said not to, but....thanks for the advice guys. That charger looks perfect.

My new consideration is to get a Traxxas 1/16 E-Revo, a couple LiPo packs and that charger. It appears I will have to solder on new connectors to the batteries? Any advice on the best way to do that, or possible different options? Any other advice is welcome, since I am just starting out. Thanks!

Mini Revo FTW!! i dont even use Lipos and i run 50+Mph and get around 20 mins of run time with two 1600MAH NiMh batteries.

Get the Mini Revo with 2 of these
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXXMZ7&P=ML

one of these
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXXKN0&P=ML

and one or two of these
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXWTD9&P=ML
with these for the proper connection.......

I know the batteries are out of stock, but your LHS might have em........especially if you live in CT......

I would not advise the use of lipos if this is your first vehicle. The series connector (as aformentioned) will offer you some pretty ridiculous speeds.

Might want to stock up on arms and grab an extra servo or two if parts are not readily available to you.

Default Revo Setup

Thanks, Dieselpower. I was looking at a very similar setup from Tower, so I think I am on the right track. Is the Onyx preferred over the Traxxas fast charger? I would post a link, but I apparently can't yet.

Also, they have a brushed version, but everything I read says to go brushless. I am having trouble spending the extra $70. This is all adding up quickly. I'm not sure I could handle that little thing at 50 mph

My $.02, since I own a 1/16 Slash and 1/16 Summit - if you are going to bash off road, the Summit may be a better bet with higher ground clearance. You can always swap street tires on it for street running, but you really can't give the MERV more ground clearance w/o swapping suspension to the Summit's.

I havent owned the mini summit, but it looks bad a$$ thou! I have owned two mine Revos and a mini Slash. Mini Slash is too little with the skate board wheels and IMO sucks bashin around the yard. Good for a dirt only area. Mini Revo is freakin SWEET! Its insane! I would think the mini Summit would be great. Get the ProLine beadlocks with Dirthawgs thou. The Revo is so light and fast with ALOT of torque. It needs that little bit of weight at the ground. But the Mini Revo is great. Lipos are a good way to go, but not needed
