You know, I didnt see a mention of a slipper. And it comes with gear diffs. I can see the belt taken up some of the drivetrain shock, but there is nothing in it as it stands to allow traction control other than the esc settings, which cant accomodate the varying surface of a track.. More than anything, I'm worried about someone doing a 3 cell with a 380+ size motor and instantly breaking the belts or stripping the teeth on them. Or coming off a jump wrong (power on) and doing the same thing.

From the few pictures from that scan, it looks like there possible could be room for one on the spur. Maybe it will be an upgrade? Speaking of upgrades, will we see a Team Kit (plz! plz!)? This time with universal joints and if there is a optional slipper, included.

We have people from Team AE on this forum. Any of them interested in given us a laydown? Rick H.?

The car has been tested with the Reedy BL system which at its most powerful runs 3S with a 9500kV motor. No problems!

Thanks for the reply Rick! :)

Was that done with foam tires on carpet?* If so, kudos for the drivetrain durability! I personally would feel better with the option of an optional slipper for traction control of some sort. I know, I know 4wd dont need it as much, but they still need it to some degree, and this car has no ball diffs, which means there is nothing in the drivetrain for this as it stands for traction/slippage control.

(Ok ok Im tired of our big brethren giving us smack and pointing to slippers as one are to somehow make us toys compared to theirs).

Anyhow hope for that option and a Team Kit (I know they sell small potatoes compared to RTR, but we buyers are out there).

*With jumps on carpet, as that truly shows the extreme these will be under.

I really can't wait to get one of these

It says that the belt drive will handle brushless/lipo. I hope they upgraded the diffs as well. The plastic ones on the 18T just melt any time you put that much power through them.

Same ad appeared in the December RC Car magazine. Wonder why it's not on the website?

Im waiting on one of these. Already starting to build small ramps for a driveway track so my brother and I can tear up the concrete, figuratively speaking of course. The sealed drive train is whats making me look at this platform the most. Will be nice to not hear the familiar sound of spur carnage like I did with our old rc18s.

I had a chance to run the SC18 around their test track out back. It's GOOD! Steering is nice and precise now, and with the completely sealed drivetrain there wasn't any gear noise. The tires worked surprisingly well, too.

Thanks for the good info TPhalen, do you think that there is a chance that they will make an R version whit this kind of drivetrain?

TPhalen 11-02-2009 05:17 PM

I'd like to think that this platform could be the next 18T or 18R or whatever, but being as its a different length we won't know until we have one.

That being said, I think you can convert it to a R (since its the same width) but the body is what you'll have to cobble up (since its longer).

Either way, the new servo saver, steering setup, and sealed drivetrain all make this the next-level 1/18th scale.

I don't mean to put you on the spot, but I was a bit curious as to why you mentioned that the SC18 was good. If it is only "GOOD", then what would make it GREAT?

No problem putting me on the spot! :)

Actually, I should have said it was great. It looks awesome, handles great and AE fixed all the little problems the original RC18 series had (ie, servo saver, open drivetrain, steering system and motor arrangement.

This is the way a next generation vehicle should be.
