SC18 eith HS65 mounted and mods

2 Attachment(s)
Here is the SC18 with Hitec HS65 MG mounted and RC18/hitec servo saver. I use the existing servo mount screw nearest center of chassis, and made a new hole for the outside screw. I skewed the servo to line the ball up to the tierod better.
The receiver still fits!

I just need the screw to hold the saver to the servo. Anyone know the size screw I need for the HS65MG and AE RC18 saver?

Thanks

You will need a 2.3mm x 8mm screw.

Yes the RC18 B2/T2 are the same chassis and driveline...longer suspension arms and different shock towers and body mounts...nor short course bumpers. They are team kits and come with some hop ups like aluminum shocks and adjustable tie-rods.

Actually, the SC18 has a longer wheelbase than the RC18B2...just wanted to clear that up.

I think you are mistaken unless the Team Associated site is inaccurate. The specs from the site are attached....

SC18, RC18T/B2, RC18 Late Model.........166mm wheelbase.

The width/track is wider on the RC18T/B2

Just got one and it will not track straight. Even if I adjust the trip it drifts right... Anyone else having this issue? Also, it gets REAL hot, the motor that is...

My SC18 did need about 1/2 of the left trim to drive straight out of the box. My motor also got very hot. You might want to check your gear mesh. It is not uncommon for stock brushed can motors to get pretty hot though. But I agree...the SC18 motor gets real hot.

First Post Alert:nod:

I just registered because I felt compelled to talk with you guys about the sc18.
I pre-ordered mine in late feb. and picked it up early last week. Right out of the gate, like others, it needed huge steering trim adjustments to track straight. I guess adjustable turnbuckles will clear that up:D Next I went to the hardware store and got (4) 3/8" brass compression ferrules and slipped those over the out-drives, this will hopefully prevent damage and wear to the plastic drives until they can be upgraded. The stock motor in my car almost got to 200degF after a run but after resetting the gear mesh and adding two heatsinks (my LHS had a couple meant for helicopters that I was able to make work) the motor now stays around 175degF max. The stock charger to me does not fully charge the battery. I only got around 10 mins runtime. I picked up a dynamite 7.2v 1600mah for a second batt. I charged both this morning at 3a with my Prophet charger so later today I will report back with results. Next on my list of upgrades is turnbuckles and raising the ground clearance and, of course, some asphalt rippin wheels and tires

Thanks Air-Jon for thoose pics :D, looking REAL good with the Mongoose in that truck!!.

But i wounder how that pinion will last? i did see thru ya gear cover that you only runing 50% pinion/spur?(or am i wrong) i know this is a common issiue, the Novak axle is way to short...and the Novak pinions are "crap"

my tip is,i usem on my TEK18T Hyperions steel 0.5 from allerc.com they are state of the art long piniongs

EDIT: Air, how is the the "rolling of the truck" i mean, does the belts hold back the truck? (hope ya know what i mean,) does it spin free or does it feelts like it have tons of motor brake

Hope you don't mind me bugging in. I don't own an SC18...yet? Been looking really hard at it, but posts like yours make me nervous. Have you tried contacting AE about the issue? If so, what was their response?

What's your general take overall with the SC18? Some friends and I were hoping to start a 1/18 short course class with this truck as it's small enough to race indoors, maybe even on RCP track.

I remember when I bought my Traxxas Slash 2wd. Took it out of the box, charged the batteries, and I've never looked back. No problems what-so-ever. Well, maybe except for driver error.

Hot brushed motors in rtr is a common issue...besides, it have 2 belts.so i am not nervous at all.

I am intrested in what Air-Jon have to say to us about the temp of the wounderfull Novak system...is it boiling hot or does it run in normal temps:D

My Novak Mongoose 13.5T/6000KV satys cool...approx 140-150F. I can keep my finger on it forever even after a full battery on the track.

My buddy picked an SC18 up this weekend at RCX..and go tthe Reedy 5000KV brushless. The Reedy gets hotter than the Novak...don't know why?

The Pinion and the Spur are aligned with the Pinion only about 1/16 away from the front motor bearing. Looks good to me!

The belt drag with the motor removed is noticable...but I dont' have an RC18 to compare to. I guarentee there is more drag, but I don't have rocks grinding around in my gears like the RC18s :) I have use timing belts in machine designs in my career....with the slipper clutch and belts...this will be a much more durable drive-train...but not quite as efficient at peak as the RC18.

Another coworker bought an SC18 at RCX this past weekend. The steering servo already stripped out...maybe 1 hour total time on the truck. ATTENTION: If you buy this truck...i recommend buying a HS65MG servo from Hitec...and ask for about quantity 5-10 of the 8mm long screw to attach the RC18 servo saver to the HS65MG. Get an RC18 servo saver for Hitec servos as well. This way when the stock servo strips in the first week, you will have all the parts ready to go...and not have to wait around.

Also, please contact AE if/when your servo strips to let them know. They told me I was the first report of a stripped servo(s). I'm going to have my 2 coworkers with SC18s with stripped servos contact AE as well. Hopefully they will get enough reports soon to get a fix in the works quickly.

Jon
