Exclamation Making a Losi Raminator rock crawler

i am planning on making my losi raminator into a rock crawler. does anyone know of a-arm extensions, locked diff setups, etc to make this a low speed geared crawler?

i was thinking of finding some type of extended a-arms and putting the losi mini crawler shocks on it, but have no idea where to get extended a-arms...

I have a couple Losi Mini Crawlers on the way to me, but I have a Mini LST2 sitting here that I thought might make a good crawler....at least for around the house.

I was thinking Hot Glue could be used to "lock" the diffs, and can be removed with some plyers later if needed.

and gear that motor way down....Losi makes down to a 9T pinion....

I think your kinda stuck with the stock A-arms, unless you can find a longer dogbone to go inside as well.

You also want taller and narrower tires as well.(maybe 1/8 scale buggy tires/wheels) The independent suspension limits your ground clearance so you need every mm of ground clearance you can find...You also want to keep the weight of the truck down low.....

The extended arms give you 10mm (3/8") total that is 5mm (5/16") per side...
not much. With the independent suspension when the side that goes high to clear something it compresses but so does the opposite side and you lose ground clearance.....You need to run the stiffest springs you can find....

You can make it an ok crawler but if you really want to crawl you should think about a solid axle crawler....

Seems as if it would be easier just to get a dedicated crawler instead of trying spending a lot of time and money to make something into something it's not.

I agree, but sometimes it's the fun of working with what you already have and making changes to it to suit your needs that makes the hobby fun.

I paid 205$ shipped each for my 2 crawlers, but the Losi raminator was just on sale for 99$ (I bought 3) for the longest time at A Main.

Obviously out of the box it might not compete well, but if you lock all 3 diffs, and gear that motor way down, you can prob have some fun with it that will not be permanent changes to the truck.

My guess is that the Losi crawler wheels fit the other Losi 1/18th 4WD vehicles. If not....maybe the stock rims could be narrowed down a bit to compress the tires a little taller.....just a thought.

Your exactly right about making changes (tinkering) with the trucks.
It definitely is a teacher of outside the box thinking...

What happens if you decide to compete with this kind of a truck...
most likely it will not fit into a class because it has no equal....

Again we all have different plans and mindsets....
I say do whatever you need to have fun and keep it rolling....

I think the only thing that would make it illegal for 1.9 class is the 'extra' steering servo....so he could prob compete with it if he really wanted to

Wheelbase is 1.5" shy of maximum 8.5" however....

The gear ratio on the losi mrc is like 100 to 1 with a 12 tooth pinion, just get the crawler!

I think the idea here is to work with what he already has, and to see if it can be done. By dropping to a 9-10T pinion over stock, you can cut the trans speed by well over 1/2. Largest Spur is a 54T I believe...

Mini-Rock Crawler
13-tooth = 92:1
14-tooth = 86:1 (stock)
15-tooth = 80:1

Yes, the MRC has a taller final drive ratio, but this is to see if a Raminator can be made into a crawler of sorts. I think it can to a point.

I have all of this in my head, as I was going to do this with a Mini LST2.....but I decided to order a MRC as I got it for 205$ shipped ....and I might want to compete in the future as well, for fun.

the problem is that i already have the raminator... not the rock crawler. i would like to make a custom and have that one of a kind truck that nobody else has. even if i tried to sell it as is which is stock and only ran twice the absolute max i could pull for it would be around $125. that puts me 75 in the hole that i could use to make this truck what i want it to be. so i will most likely be better off making this truck custom then just buying the rock crawler... and the custom idea gives it more points.

and for slowing the truck down, the crawler motor is 15 dollars new, and then i could gear it down.
