These cars can race in the buggy open class at the 1/18 Nats this year!!! Hope to see a few of you there!!!

Can anyone here with a GB-01 tell me the length of the shocks? At a store I've read that the shocks are 65mm front and 70mm rear. Is this the overall length or the distance between the mounting holes? Any help is appreciated 'cause I am looking for some shocks for my M18T and the tuning shocks for the GB-01 look sooo sweeet!

What kind of servo can I use for this GB-01? Would this Futaba 3154 fit?

Thanks...

Can the Novak SPY ESC handle the stock or option Tamiya motor for the GB-01?

TFR 08-14-2007 02:45 PM

Nobody run these anymore?:(

What fast brushed motor do you guys recommand that can hang with brushless?

RCMadness 08-14-2007 04:07 PM

The Spy or Novak GTcan both handle the stovk & aftermarket motor. At the 1/18 Indoor Off Road Nats in 2008 these cars will have their own class.

Getting bored with my Tamtechs! I bought two at $70 each so I would have a pair that could be raced while camping at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) for NASCAR. I like the size, small enough to be compact but big enough to use out on the streets or on favorable off-road conditions. Did a small tri-oval at first but when the camping area got full just ran them on the dirt road around a pair of Budwieser "pylons." That's really about as good action as we could get out of these with their stock friction shocks which would send the cars of in random directions so it was as much a challenge going straight as it was making a good turn around the pylons. This is a picture of the cars on the surface we were running them on at PIR's camping area:

Now that I've had them at home they seem quick in the garage but really slow out in the real world. In the garage though the front shock shafts get pretty beat-up. At some point I'm expecting them to fracture from all the cold-working they get being bent out of shape then back into shape. Try to run them around a small 1/10 track and it takes forever for them to motor around, and then just kind of flop off the jumps. 1100 mAH batteries seem to last forever with the stock motor. Car stops being fun before the battery is down!

OK so time to upgrade stuff…but my original intent with these cars were for some cheap fun. But any hop-up I do is going to cost me X2 because the pair need to run equal. So, brushless, LiPo, Tamiya aluminum aeration dampers (nice, but, a set costs just about as much as the RTR!) out of the question. That level of investment I'm saving for my 1/10 ST. I'm going to try the SPT with an RR aluminum 18T pinion. Cost is reasonable, hopefully it is fast enough to bring the fun back If the fun returns I'll look into getting the CVA dampers since they seem to be the least expensive option and the bumper set to protect those shocks! If there are any other shock options that I should consider that I can get through Tower, please let me know.

I was thinking of getting a small scale buggy, but was wondering which handles better...tamtech frog or the RC18B?

I like that the frog comes sealed up...but will it outperform the associated?

RC18B is 4WD and comes with oil filled dampers. I imagine this car would handle much better than the RTR Frog/Fox/Hornet.

TamTech Gear GB-01 is 2WD, and the RTRs come with friction shocks which are pretty lousy for off-road. Rear end of the car bottoms out off a 2.5 inch jump (need to upgrade the motor to jump, see below). On-power coming out of a turn the car is tight; it will push. Plastic body oil-filled CVA dampers are available for about $20.00 for the set, or some very nice aluminum ones for $60-70.

For aftermarket wheels and tires, not much available direct fit...you need to be creative, but I'm sure there are some solutions available if you do the research.

Stock motor is slow but very efficient. 1100 mAH Batteries last forever. Get bored fast. Car doesn't jump with the stock motor. Tamiya Sport Tuned SPT motor is a great bang-for the buck hop-up. Car is fast and will now jump. Fun to drive on pavement with the SPT motor. I just upgraded to the SPT, along with an aluminum 18 tooth pinion over this past weekend and am enjoying this car again, at least on-road.

Front shocks are very vulnerable. Bottom of shock gets pushed back off the ball in collisions at best, at worst you end up with a bent shock shaft. At least with the friction shocks you can just bend the shafts back...I'm doing this all the time! Need the bumper kit. Other than that the car is durable. Haven't broken anything, but then at the speeds it was going with the stock motor you aren't likely to break anything. With the SPT motor, the car is starting to take a beating, so we will see how it holds up.
