Have you done a direct comparison with the dragon chassis and one of others that use an active rear pod? I'm just wondering how it stacks up. It seems to me that the active pod can be tuned to the track for better handling. Having said that, it might not work out in reality since my experiance has been that tire choice is by far the most importaint tuning factor.

k_bojar 07-14-2006 05:15 PM

as far as a comparison - to me, they feel about the same...My last chassis was a Ratzas - and the rear had a little hop...Same exists with the griffin...

As far as lap times, I have no idea :) different motors, electrics and batteries from the last time I ran my mRS4

but compared to the m18's - it feels just as fast, just a lot quieter and can hang (within reason) with a little ol' BB :)

Last Winter I drove into Micro on-road with a used
Motec-EXO2, ''active rear pod'' style chassis.
We raced on foam tile and untill I got foam tire's,
it was all about set-up and throtle/brake control.
[280/300, Rr Ball diff,Frt 1way or open,6-1100niMh]
Man did those rubber skin's school, Me!
Now I'm pretty familure with the Lil' Whip..

Ya..I need a ball-diff and steel axle frt or at least some more alum axles and out drives.
I've seen lot's of batt configuration pic's here http://yourmicro.com/
A lipo could be it! not sure about going B/L ,
Car can go Way faster than I can drive,
other trusted racers have shown me!!

that is currently the most sought after mRS4 part - they have been out of production for a LONG time :( I think I got the last one for sale on the east coast earlier this summer....

I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a 2nd one for Griffin #2

You can try rcraceday.com - they might have one, but don't be disappointed if you can't track down one

macnkitty2002 12-01-2006 07:23 PM

hey guys,
i just decided to give my old MRS4 a revamp. so i ordered a sweet Penguin RC 3500LM chassis for it, with micro servo mounts. i'm throwing in all new electronics, including a Mamba package.

i will probably be racing it in the micro class at my local club, nothing fancy or particular about it. what Mamba system should i get if the track will be built for 1/10 gas/electric sedans? will the 5400kV be a good choice? i am not looking for stupid fast speeds with tire shredding power, i want the system that i can control and be able to use to its fullest. i'm not sure what gearing i'll be running, so i might need some help on that too.

by the way, if i do get a brushless system, i should probably use metal pinions, right? i am guessing that the plastic ones would just spin right off.

Thai3g_Eclipse 12-01-2006 07:28 PM

The 5400kV will be perfect. Anything higher will kill drivetrain parts and you will need a large track to really pull out all of its potential. As for gearing, HPI sells steel pinion gears for the Micro RS4 in 9T-14T flavors, I suggest 10-11T.

macnkitty2002 12-01-2006 07:46 PM

thanks man. i have thought about this for a while and i think i need to do some more upgrades before i can be very successful with racing it. i should probably get the following before long:

steel universals
rear ball diff
front one-way
VCS rear shock (once i get the new chassis)
more foam tires
better front shocks (at least get some different springs)

is there anything else you think i should add?

macnkitty2002 12-02-2006 01:09 PM

i went to the LHS today to pick up a few things to get my MRS4 going again.

TRC foams, FR and RR
HS81 servo
dual link tie rod set
Li-po battery, e-Flite 2S 7.4V 1200mah

and i ordered a new body for my ride too. all i will need is another receiver and a motor system.

Funny because I just rebuilt my friend HPI and I will give it a try tonigh (I have sold mine long time ago) !!!!

K_bojar: do you really thing that your car could follow a m18 with almost the same electric setup (same motor, same number of battery..etc) ???

do you know if someone was running an HPI at the ECC ?

straydog 11-13-2007 06:01 PM

Great Race Car!

Well the indoor Micro Season is upon Me again, and I can
break out the mrs4 and will take on several m18, Recoils, etc.

I Want to use the Futaba 5000 that came with my 'Detta
with either a JR310 or Spek' Micro rx. In a EXO2 but,,,
The JR310 had set-up problems with the F5000 in the 'detta?
[Dead spot's in thrtl & No brk all rev']
Maybe that need's a set-up at every power-up?!

Otherwise, it's the Spektrum Micro rx out of my 1/8 scale
and I'm not sure it has enuff setting's for this Whip!
Whats you'r input? What are you Racing? Think this will Work?
M-RS4 EXO2, [b/d & o/way,steel axles, 280/300,
vc shock, mg81 w/dbl Ti' link's, 6cell 600/1100/1500?]
