Hello All, Another decent month in February with 10 drivers competing in 7 classes with a total of 22 times submitted and some good close racing. Before I get onto the results I would like to cover a bit of housekeeping.
I also wanted to get some ideas for an Endurance race this month as the 12 Hours of Sebring runs on the 20th. I did not like the format I came up with for the 24 hours Of Daytona. Are any of you guys interested in doing an endurance race that coincides with actual events? Let me know the interest level and we can hash out the details. Lastly, you may have noticed my absence on the M96WC Facebook page. I am afraid that once again I have been thrown in FB jail for some snarky political comments, I need to learn to keep my mouth shut. I will ask Traveler to post the results and circuit and I should be good to go a week from today.... Alright, with that said Here are your February results: Box Stock 8th-MilehighRC- 356.8s/4.13s 7th-Thunderbear- 356.2s/4.12s 6th-Wanikka- 344.92s/3.9s 5th-LJH- 326.9s/4.04s 4th- TomTheGeek- 326.9s/3.87s 3rd-FastJew- 296.6s/3.67s 2nd-LuckyLou- 279.99s/3.45s 1st-Traveler- 265.34s/3.23s I have to mention how close the racing was in Box Stock this month, take a look at the delta between 4th and 5th and 7th and 8th......that is some good racing. Stock Class 6th-Nutdriver- 381.38s/4.95s 5th-MileHighRC- 343.9s/3.89s 4th-LJH- 315.6s/3.75s 3rd-ZXCVB1T- 305.06s/3.70s 2nd-LuckyLou- 275.19s/3.42s 1st-Traveler- 248.41s/2.97s 90 Narrow Stock Class 2nd-FastJew- 326.3s/3.54s 1st-Traveler- 296.89s/3.33s Porsche Cup 90mm 3rd-LJH- 325.6s/3.92s 2nd-LuckyLou- 277.85s/3.45s 1st-Traveler- 265.34s/3.23s Pro-Stock Class 2nd-ZXCVB1T-294.23s/3.68s 1st-Traveler- 242.51s/2.91 Open Class 1st- ZXCVB1T- 290.20s/3.55s Once again, the FTM (Fastest lap of the month) goes to Traveler, in his Pro-Stock Car, with a smoking fast lap of 2.91s. Thanks all and I will get a circuit published either this evening or tomorrow AM. Cheers, Jim |
Thanks for posting the results. That's some very close Box Stock racing!
! I only have one car I can dedicate to the Mini96 so multiple classes are out for me. Also I suspect it would be hard to find time to run more than one class. Now that the local RCP track has started racing again most of my development time will be spent there. An endurance race sounds fun but again I bet I will have other things going on. |
This is my first time running 3 classes. Maybe i will adding one for either porsche cup or jdm fun class. But it will have to do with my work schedule and my ability to understand nexx's front end.
BTW, is it possible to combine 90-94mm narrow chassis into one class? There are lot of sports car bodies within this wheel base. The porsche can race here too as most of them are 90mm though running on wide offset. Afterall, Porsche are sports car. |

Hello All,
I also want to cover some of the new classes. Along with the 90 narrow class we have the Porsche Cup, and now the JDM Stock class. Do you guys find this to be too many classes for each month? I am personally finding it tough to be able to dedicate enough time to each class but I may be in the minority here. Let me know your thoughts. I also wanted to get some ideas for an Endurance race this month as the 12 Hours of Sebring runs on the 20th. I did not like the format I came up with for the 24 hours Of Daytona. Cheers, Jim Regarding the number of classes, I think the official classes we have had are appropriate. Racers can run as few or as many classes as they wish in any given month based on their available cars and time. The JDM fun class was just a one off idea Louis and I decided to try in February, and I didn’t expect anyone else to joint it, nor that it be added as an official class in the M96WC. Same was true for the Porsche RM fun class we tried in January, although it seemed to get more traction. So I’d suggest leaving the classes as is for now. Again, there is no requirement for a racer to run a minimum number of classes, or the same classes each month. I’d need more details about the endurance race to say for sure, but I’ve personally never been interested in participating when I’ve had the chance to in the past. You should be able to find some cool ideas on MZR forums if you search for endurance. Things like night stage with only car lights on, wet stage with hard slicks, minimum number of pit stops for battery changes, etc. It all seems unduly complicated and frustrating to me, but I can see how it could appeal to others, so no judgment here, just not my thing. I know how posts like this can sometimes be taken the wrong way, or spark intense debate, neither of which is my goal. Simply sharing my thoughts on Jim’s questions. |

So am I allowed to use 6t pinion in box stock?
Box Stock- 4AAA NiMh KyoshoChassis, EVO Board not allowed. OEM White End bell Motor unmodified, 7T Pinion are both mandatory. Front springs, tires, T-Plate, and bearings are open. Any Kyosho plastic motor mount that does not incorporate a disc dampener can be used for 86-98MM Wheelbases. Kyosho Autoscale/White body Complete and unmodified must use original wing or no wing at all. 20MM Wheels only. Aluminum T-Plate mounts, aftermarket nose clips, and R246-1310 0* Kyosho front knuckles (these are the only aftermarket knuckles that are allowed) are permissible on the chassis to increase the durability of chassis. |
It's not me 🙂

Jim, first of all, thank you for everything you’ve done to keep this challenge running. I have thoroughly enjoyed it, especially as an outlet during the pandemic. I also think it has made me a better driver, and I look forward to seeing how that translates to a larger track when I can get back to one eventually. And thanks to everyone that has participated. Here are my initial thoughts on your questions, no offense to anyone intended.

Thanks for the input on the classes. I feel like I should be running reach class but that is just not possible given my schedule these days. I will wait and see what some of the others think about the number of classes. With that said we have a guy coming in to give us a quote for a lift to get me into the basement. If I can have a permanent area to set up my track I will be able to get a lot more laps in per month. As for endurance races I am not nearly as committed other are and I am with you on not having the wear with all to go that deep. I am thinking something simple like a stock or pro stock race using liveried bodies that have run at said event at some time in history. Duration of maybe 120 laps or 12 minutes or something like that. No offense taken in the slightest, it is good to have discussion points in the hopes it will progress the series. Cheers, Jim |

Good catch, I did not make note of the pinion noted. Cheers, Jim |
I did not notice the restriction either, sorry everyone. Will change it for this month.

Jim,
Thank you so much for running this league. It is incredibly fun and challenging. I love how we change the track each month as it keeps the hobby fresh and requires constant tweaking of the cars. I truly wish I would have found this when it originally started but I am absolutely hooked and have multiple friends that have been practicing on my track and are close to joining this league as well. I like the class structure as it is but since I am new to the Z I am open to suggestions and I will likely start competing in more than just Box Stock and Stock. I really hope this isn’t going to die off after covid. I am invested and hope this league last for years to come. Thank you for taking the time necessary to make this happen for all of us Jim! |

Thanks so much for the good words and it is great to hear that you are enjoying the M96WC so much. Great to hear you are introducing new blood to the Challenge, as they say, "The more the merrier". There are times I get frustrated that we have 300+ members in the FB group and have a hard time getting 15 competitors to post times but then again it makes it easier to get to know your competitors and know who is close in speed with you. As long as there is decent interest and I am having fun I will keep the Challenge going and if either of those changes I will be happy to pass the baton onto the next individual who wants to be the caretaker of the M96WC. As for classes my favorites are the PN70 Stock classes (Stock, Stock Narrow, and my favorite the Porche Cup 86/90 rear mount), I love Box Stock as well but right now I have a love/hate relationship with my car as it is not behaving on the bumps at all and if I push just slightly to hard the car will bite me big time. I also really like Pro-Stock since this is my 102mm car and I love Group C prototypes. To be honest I am thinking of selling my GLR just because there is not a lot of activity in that class and I just do not run the car very often....with that said it does drive really well and it cool just to look at. With all that said if I were you I would build an SWB car (short wheelbase) and compete in the Narrow 90 or Porsche cup class.....These cars are just so much fun to drive. Thanks again and keep the shiny side up. Cheers, Jim |
