What kind of track do you run on?
|
Clay...
That was on the stock tires. |
The 14T looks really good on that track!
The indoor track I race at uses clay slicks, so I bought a set of these to try out: edited, these are junk, don't buy them!) In open practice my LC Truggy was able to keep up with the 4wd mod buggies. They might be a good option to consider for indoor clay, and if they don't work out, they're great street tires for bashing around. |

I've already ran them a couple of times. They don't seem to grip as well as the MC primes we run at our track, but it's still enough grip that I can keep up with the 4wd buggies. I'll be at the track with them again tonight and this time I'll try putting on traction compound to see if I can get them to grip even more. I do like them much better than the stock tires that came with the truggy.
I also see a more treaded looking tire too with a similar price. |

sounds good. probably needs to be sauced in to get some of the bite up. At that price though could be a nice option.

That track looks like it's made for 1/14 scale. 1/10 barely gets to stretch their legs there. The buggy seemed to track straight for you. That was one of my questions about the 14b.
Be careful buying the Chinese tire/wheel sets. The tires are good but the wheels can be super brittle. I bought a few sets and the wheels broke right away. |

these tires are ones that someone recommended to me as being really good:

There was some pretty good feedback in the reviews that let you know if the wheels were a problem. I've beaten mine pretty hard and so far they've held up.

Update: The ones I ordered are junk. Don't get them.
https://i.imgur.com/lt7pQDE.jpg As an experiment to see how well touring car wheels and tires work on indoor clay - I'd say it was a success. Just need to find a setup that's a bit more durable. The tires really started to grip as I sauced them. |

Losi Mini 8ight dish wheels will work with those tires. Also Vaterra on road wheels work too and have more style.
|
The HPI 602 is a good choice. They have knock offs on ebay for about $13 a set with tires. Originals are out of production. Tamiya also make some nice rally spokes that will work with 26mm tires.

well my track finally froze solid enough to run and not get muddy. my front and rear diffs are butter. but my pinion/spur was sounding terrible so i said screw it. ran full blast with loud noises until i could run no more. ill tear into later to see how bad i ate up the spur. i might hold off on running until i can figure out how to mesh these properly as i am now out both spur gears likely. that said, with the 70t and this badass battery (maxamps 2250 2s 100c) the little truck just flies! wayyyy faster then the cheapo turnigy battery. cant imagine how fast it will be going with the smaller spur..... im sure i was hitting 35 wide open IN BUMPY GRASS

Can someone measure the diameter, width, and offset of their reflex wheels?
|

Appreciate it! Offset is calculated based off the width of the wheel and the depth of the hub. Here's an article that's pretty easy to follow: https://www.asiatees.com/article?RC-...Offset&id=2629

I'd email Steve and ask. Sometimes weird stuff happens to his site when he adds new items like he did recently. Things get jostled around or disappear completely. You can also try Riptide RC if that doesn't pan out.

Been following thread since it was started. The Reflex is still on my list of possible. I wouldn’t expect much from Associated for it. Considering how long the mini8 was around and Losi didn’t fix any of the known issues. Instead created others by turning the original into 2 other vehicles. If there is a class using it. Do what you can to promote it. It’s far to regional to expect Associated to see it as a clas for them to get involved supporting. Vaterra Kemora Vaterra Kalahari Losi Mini Desert Truck Losi Mini 8ight-T Losi Mini DB Losi Mini 8ight Rally and I am pretty sure I am forgetting one. |

Yeah, the only cars I really consider in the actual Mini 8ight family are the original (and now discontinued buggy), the Mini 8ight T, and the DB.
The Losi Mini Rally is really a Vaterra Kemora in Losi clothing. Same for the Desert Truck/Kalahari. Some parts are swappable with the Mini 8ights but nothing major like chassis, motor mounts, driveshafts, or shock towers, or suspension arms. I think perhaps the only substantial parts they have in common with the M8's are the diff cases and diffs themselves. |
The wheelbase of the Vaterra's were different than the mini 8ight so you couldn't use any of those cool bodies.

Evening All,
This is my 1st forum joined, so please excuse the inevitable rookie mistakes to come. I bought a Reflex truggy and buggy for myself and 10 year old son. We got them right before Thanksgiving and have run a dozen or so packs thru each with little problem. I did some research on these as well as the LC and Losi 8T. I went with these because I recognized the brand from from an RC car race almost 30 years ago. We really enjoy running in the local elementary school parking lot and do some light to medium bashing. My reason for inquiring into your experience is because, during research, my son and I watched a bunch of videos of the LCs and Losis popping wheelies and going 40+ mph. Well, my son, and me too a bit less, want these cars to do this. I have read this whole thread and have learned a lot in 8 pages, but not what we want to do. Any thoughts on our goal would be sincerely appreciated. |
Evening All,
This is my 1st forum joined and thank in advance for the rookie mistakes to come. I bought a truggy and buggy for myself and my 10 year old son. We got them just before Thanksgiving and have run about a dozen packs thru each with little trouble. I researched these along with the LCs and Losi 8T and decided on this model simply because it was the only one I knew from an RC car race is saw almost 30 years ago. We like to run them at the elementary school parking lot. A lot of drifting and some light to medium bashing is where it is at for my son now. BUT, during our research, he saw a lot of the LCs and Losis doing wheelies and 40+ mph - now that is what he wants, and me too I'll admit. I have read this thread from the beginning but am not sure what to do to reach our goals. Diff oil weights, better batt packs, different speed controllers and motors, gearing. I do not mind spending the money but want some bang for it and please the little guy. Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated Thank You All |
Would love to see pics of this next to the losi mini 8ight and 8ight-T. Seems to be similar size to mini 8ight.

Anybody know why the centers for two piece shocks come in the bag of parts when the shocks are a one piece cap?
Seems like the cap centers in the bag look like the EMB buggy shock cap centers..... |

Battery sizes/types
Bought a 14b for my son for xmas (lucky kid) so he and I can buggy around the neighborhood with my old b4.1.
New to this scale - looks really cool and I'm jealous of his shiny new ride (I'm sure a few minutes with him at the controls will fix that).. Anyway, I'm totally unfamiliar with what battery type to use to max out his enjoyment. From the size of the battery tray, it looks like we're limited to about 2000mah max (without modifying the tray)... What about the voltage rating for the stock electronics? Limited to 7.4 or 7.6? Don't do 11.1? It also seems that 2s is probably the max recommended, but just confirming. Thanks in advance! |

I would also consider upgrading the ESC to the same HW equivalent so you can do some tuning on it, its only like $25 from Warren RC Hobbywing Quicrun 30 Amp Brushless ESC |
