I just ordered a 1/8 scale brushless setup and will have a maxamps 4S 6000mah pack for it.
I am going to use an MRC 989 charger, but I am not sure what balancer to get.
What differences will I see from the balancers listed on Maxamps site?
Also, what is maxamps preferred method to store lipos when not in use?

If you want a great balancer go with the Hyperion LBA-10. You can use it in both stand alone or use it to balance and charge at the same time not to mention you can get adapters for just about every brand of taps on the market. As for storing packs we recommend putting them a 50% and cycle them at least once a month.

Jason,
Thanks for the info. I think I am going to go with that.
As for storage, what do you guys recommend storing the batteries in?
For the type of pack I will have, should I store it in a liposack or something like a battery bunker? Or, does it need to be stored like this at all since it appears the fire issue is from charging / discharging and not storage issues?

You can use the bunkers or bags for storing but it won't take long to fill them up. I just let them sit on a cool metal shelf in the basement that is away from anything that would catch on fire. The only time you have to worry about one flaming is when charging or getting the wires shorted out on it some also use steel amo boxes for storage. Although they can ocassionally puff if stored wrong they will only puff not flame.

Not real sure on that I have heard that some are storing them in their refridgerators but, I don't know if that has proven to do anything or not. I generally keep mine in the basement in my shop which is usually around 68 to 70 degrees. I do know that in the winter at around 30 degrees or less if you don't keep em' warm they don't last as long during use but when warmed back up they perform normally again.

Jason,
If you know anyone in the lipo biz who would know what cold temps lipos cannot be stored I would be most appreciative.
Again I won't be running this until they are room temperature again, just storage.

The info I found says that you can store them in a fridge but it doesn't appear to help or harm them.................
