Squirrel-is a non-board member who decided on his own to have a heli-night when issue's of insurance,carpet and other things are still to be worked out.
Greg is a board member who did not know of some of those issues,besides I'm pretty sure it takes more than one board member to O.K. the use of the building.
If this becomes an issue than we may have to reveiw Whom needs a key and will use it responsabally.
I know some of you could care less about liability issues but to my understanding Board members could be liable if the club is sued.

If the club is set up correctly, the organization is a separate entity and the board members would not (and should not) be liable in the case of a lawsuit. That's how any non-profit organization or LLC operates.

However, that assumes that it is set up correctly. In my five years of being associated with the club, we never once saw organizational papers or a real financial statement. So, who knows...

Those little electric helicopters can't hurt the carpet. The props are generally made of foam or light plastic and will break away at the first sign of force.

My understanding is that MARCCA by-laws require that a board member open. So if there is a board member willing to open it is not a problem. I suspect as of January there will be a board member with a mini-heli so opening shouldn't be a problem.

Here I thought it was a no fly zone.

The only thing I see MARCCA not allowing in the near future is indoor rocket power vehicles.

This anonymous post thing is driving me nuts. Both you and Hybrid appear to speak from some experience, but appear not to be on the same page either. Are you board members of MARCCA?

Club liability works like this: IF MARCCA incorporated, like it should have, as a non-profit corp., I understand that neither the officers, nor the members can be sued directly for the actions or inactions of the corporation, unless they acted in a criminal way. That is what separates sole proprietorships from corporations-who is liable. Yes, the club/corporation could be sued for everything it has, but most clubs don't have much to begin with.

At the dome, each member must be an AMA member to fly. With AMA membership comes personal liability insurance.
That covers impact and personal injury issues. To this date, absolutely no damage has occurred at the dome to the dome, though many a model has been "re-kitted" there.

The carpet is a non-issue. The models we are speaking of are a fraction of the weight of your average electric buggy. They are 9oz soaking wet. If or when they crash, they simply come apart which absorbs any energy they were carrying when they impacted. We flew at the track last year and never even scratched the carpet- but then you couldn't have noticed with all the rips in it from cars

This building key issue: I don't see where this should be an issue.
One person should be in charge of the building and delegate the authority to whomever requires access to the building. This was not even an issue last year. Charlie opened the building and closed afterwards. I know he is not a MARCCA member now, but assignment to this "job" to a current MARCCA member who is interested should not be a problem.

Communication is the key here. You folks have concerns, but I don't hear them spoken. Other clubs and loosely formed organizations have dealt with many of the issues you raised and overcome them. I have offered in the past to help, but I have not been consulted, nor that I know of has Charlie

I'm still waiting on the club's Mission Statement, which I asked for on 11-12-2002. Asking only got me the offer of getting my ass kicked...
