Just thought I would throw in a couple of my opinions.

You guys will never be able to teach a so called "Whiner" that you are only as fast as the people you race against.. meaning, sooner or later if you work hard, ask questions and learn you will be as fast as them or close to it. You will not be able to teach someone to look at the fast guys as goals.. Make an adjustment and see (by lap times) if my adjustment worked.. if so try another etc etc
The fastest way I think to make a class grow is to OFFER YOUR HELP to these so called "Whiners" or newbies.
I'm not saying GIVE him/her all the answers but HELP them get in the right direction, teach them. Frustration sets in most newbies sooner or later and they will "whine" or go to another class, type of racing or quit all together.. And it's actually rewarding to see someone that you took under your wing get faster and faster.
I usually TRY to get as fast as I can but if I hit a brick wall you dang skippy I'm asking questions... but not everyone is like that.
Check the ego's at the door, and help support the long term of our hobby, hobby shops, race tracks and future racers.

These are just my opinions and nothing more.

Well here is some track info in terms of driving and speed of the car. I did put a 10t Revelution in my sedan with a practice 4 cell pack. The car was not geared correct...not like I have ran 4 cell mod on carpet before....lol

The car was good and easy to drive. I know with better gearing/rollout that the car would be plenty "fast". Runtime with Junk pack was not an issue. The car was nothing crazy and was fun to drive.

That is my practice session info. Computer was not on to get laptimes.

Now my thoughts. I think what this discussion is a brainstorming session. Ideas have to be thrown out if anything ever wants to be done. I really believe that sedans are the best class out there (totally personal opinion...no right or wrong answer...no flame please...lol) but they are not growing here in hutch and ideas to why are many. We are looking for ideas...trying to be proactive in getting people to the track. It may not be 4 cell sedans that was just a question that we had after discussions about this topic came up nationally. I race with Doug and Ken on a weekly basis...I am not shy about racing with great racers....lol But if there are only 3 cars or no cars at the track not much "fun" racing. Numbers allow everyone to have someone to race. The fastest guys are racing to cut time, the middle guys are dicing it out and the newer/slower racers are learning. There is room at the track for all racers, out for blood, hobbiest and newbies. We need them all to have a place to race.

Smart dialog about ways to improve the hobby are always good. Sometimes it is tuff not to over react when something strikes us a crazy. Hope no one is called out or offended any more in this discussion about our hobby.

Jeff

Boogyman has hit the nail on the head.

Hell, go ahead and give the new guys all the answers. Let's get down to driving the dang things.

You cant buy the experience it takes to be the fast guy. (how much do you think that would sell for?)

I've been surrounded by fast guys since the day I started this hobby almost 9 years ago. I still can't beat them. However, I have learned a lot from them and even if my skills are never as good, I have learned to drive well enough not to break everything and to have fun. And on the occasion when my equipment wasn't quite up to par (slow motor or weak batts) some of those fast guys have even stepped up to loan me something to take that factor out for the day. I still got whooped, but at least the day was fun. I have been out of the electric side for a while now, but have been reinvesting some cash into it, and I must say 1/12th scale has certainly been fun, and I could start enjoying sedan again as well if the class starts to grow. But I like many don't want to race in a class of 2 people. I'll make my investment toward something that looks as if it will be around for a bit. Otherwise, I'll race something else. Let's just stick with something for more than a week is all I ask

I didn't know that the term whiner would be quoted so much LOL when I used it in my original post. I am sorry if I offended anybody by it. I didn't me to.

Jeff I like your post I agree with what you said.

Boogy you are right as well.

It boils down to practice practice practice. I never had a novice class to race in I got throw right in with the wolves from the start and you know I think that made me develop a little faster. I am still not even close but I am still workin at it.

The other thought about how people race in another class because no one shows up for the other, well if a lot you raced touring cars before you started 1/12th scale well the same core of racers are still racing you are just racing a different class. And if all you like touring class better than why switch?? If people are just quiting altogether or totally new people are beginning in 1/12th scale than this thought don't mean squat.

I can't wait to race at the B.B. later this month I might try to make it down before thats if I can
Jamee

One last thing(sorry) thanks Doug for spelling my name correct.
And I will make sure to have my touring car when I come!!

Thumbs up

I think Deltaman has got it. My dad and I are willing to try it as long as we don't chase anybody away from the hobby. We need to gain people in this hobby not lose them. Besides I think it will be cheaper for everthing in the end(tires, motors, batteries). Hopefully if we do convert to 4-cell we'll rely more on driving and setup than batteries and motors. We have been guilty of chasing the fast guys setup. We thank you all very much but have learned that nothing helps more than practice, practice, practice.

**Hey Deltaman have you started on converting your xray t1m? I have!**

Default Conversion -

Yes I have started the conversion. It is a little more involved than I originally thought. upper camber links need to be replaced. (longer) dog bones need to be replaced (longer) Tie rod ends need to be replaced (longer) on top of the belt and chassis. some off the blocks that the hing pins ride in should be replaced as well. might have been better off to sell and just buy a T1R

I was lucky that I had the upper camber links in my box any way still need to do some tie rod ends etc. you may want to think twice. I did several times last night

anyway good luck and tell me how yours comes out.

I will not be able to race Wed night, I need to watch my boy as my wife is out of town. Sorry will be there next week.

Conversion

Dear Deltaman,
I was wondering which pivot blocks needed replacing because I do not have any experience with the short arm cars? Thank you very much Deltaman and have fun with Alexander! See you next Wednesday at the track.

p.s- For the new track design, I have found that using the blue rear spring for the 12l4 really helps.

Default Have to say this!!!!!

If half you racers spent half the time practicing your skills as much as you do complaining or bitching about all this crap there would be no problem getting racers.

I've read this stuff for two years and the one's that complain the most, race the least for one reason or another.

There are different classes for different skill levels just as any other form of racing. If you can't hang with the expert guys run sportman, it is that simple. A $1000.00 does not get you in the A-main, a $1000.00 in practice time will.

This 4-cell thing for Sedans was a though and good opions are expressed. But if you don't even race then what do you all care.
If there is a 4-cell sedan class fine, whatever it takes.

Just tired of all this Crap come out and race when you can or SHUT UP.

well my opinion on 4 cell tc is this. if the newbie driver gets into this class. Once he decides he's good enough to move onto the next level, now this driver has to buy more batteries. There's gonna be those that either can't afford or aren't going to be willing to put another huge chunk of money into a hobby. Why start another class when we can seperate an already competitive class by skill levels? I know Shane and the Fastlane guys would be happy to work with drivers to do this. But, here's the thing. we've got to have those drivers show up. Cause you can't seperate out what we don't have. The complaint has been that drivers show up and see Billy, Eric and Bear and say they can't compete with them and that we at Fastlane are to serious and competitive. My response is yes we are competitive. But, we know that not all drivers are of a national caliber, like Billy, Bear and Eric. Shane is more than willing to seperate classes so that drivers can compete with other drivers of the same skill levels if we just show up. Come on guys. For those who are whining, drop it for a minute. Get your friends together and come out to the track and have a good time . Take advantage of the moment we have. Cause if we don't get drivers out to the tracks and supporting their local hobby shops, one day we may not have them.

I believe there are several reasons touring car racing is declining.

1. We have raised a society of spoiled kids who want everything right now. I am guilty of this on occasion myself.

2. If you walked in the races and look around at the equipment that we bring to the track, it can be very intimidating. Especially for parents that are checking what these items cost.

3. People believe they have to have all these high dollar items to compete.

Maybe one of the better on-road guys could use a rtr or a equivalent in a points series and prove you don't need the "good stuff" to win.

just my .02

Want my thoughts? I didnt think so...
I think if KC had tons of sedan racers then maybe 4cell sedan could take off. It seems like people are looking for a band aid to cover a problem instead of facing some hard truths about the hobby.
