999, sanding the comm is not a good idea, you eyes can tell it is "smooth" but it is not really smooth to the brushes. it will hurt the comm seriously if there is excess vibration.

hehehe...it was just a thought...oh well...ill stick with the lathe then....

but when ever i take the motor to get the comm cut...they always charge me more because they said that i worn out the comm too much and have to cut the comm deeper. i think ill sand the comm...run it a few times, then get it cut...hahaha...that would save me some money!

TS: if you use a 100T spur, I think you can gear at 26-27T. but I am not sure whether you can do so because there is very limited room to let the motor move forward when using a larger pinion.

999: That's very expensive!!! I was expecting $10-$20! I cut comm for my friends at track for free. I think you better save up the comm cutting charge for a lathe. Much more cost efficient in the long run.

Kingcrab: Best of luck for your "All Japan R/C Touring Race". Make sure you can provide us day to day actions from Japan if you have direct access to internet.

Mars: Is Andy going for the race? I knew he did last year.

999-Thats not just expensive.... it is positively a total rip-off to charge $30-50 to cut a comm. A Hudy lathe with diamond bit will set you back around $13xx-14xx.

You will get your money back after around 35 comms! I have cut at least 100 comms with my Hudy and the diamond cutter is still working like new. What you could do is to club together with a few friends and split the cost in buying the lathe. Thats what we did with our foam tire truer!
