I've been told by many engine pros to break in the engine with what you'll be running in it.

in fact, you need a fuel with more lubricant for running in. nitro % is nothing and it is just for keep the engine running. using low nitro fuel is for economical reason.

I dont know, the piston/sleeve wont get worn in with a lot of lubrication, and break in will take over a gallon.

not really. unloading run in takes more time. i usually let it run around 6 to 8 tanks and then throw the car on the track and this step will make the piston/sleeve run in faster.

as a matter of fact, you could always adjust your carb to control amount of fuel.

talking about break in...you guys to the stand break in...run for 5-8 tanks..then just run the car at the track for another 2-3 tanks before opening up ya?

my friends do a running breakin! they let the car run as soon as they get the engine....run it for 5 mins...with like...30% throttle or till it reaches a temp, then turn it off let it cook off till a temp start it up again....and just keep repeating...

what works?

well i will let the car run with loading (on track) with very rich needle and lean it up progressively until piston/sleeve smooth. you dont need to open up the engine to look at the sleeve. this is stupid. i am sure Ron didnt do this.

Yeah, it's not hard to feel the compression of an engine as it breaks in. Dynamite even makes a compression gauge for RC nitro engines. I know a few people who just run the engine super lean at like 300+ degrees for a tank to break it in... dont know if I'd ever do that though.
