Our 1/12th class runs 13.5 motors. Your welcome to run a 17.5 if you feel more confident with that but it will have a hard time keeping up. You can use any normal ESC so long as you use an external booster or a receiver battery pack. The 1s ESCs just make it so there is 1 less thing taking up room on the cramped chassis.

Hey All,
Not sure if I will make the first race on the 12th but will be at the track once family flys back to the main land. I am new to 1/12 scale but have been putting together some cars to start. I got turned onto it while visiting Tucson. I currently have a Serpent with a viper VX1 ESC and 17.5 motor.
So first off am I in the ball park?
Second I have noticed that 1S ESCs with a reciever boost/output are few and far between and usually pretty expensive. Are there any alternatives to the $150 plus 1S ESCs I have seen?
I have a second Serpent and two XRays I have not equipped yet and I'm looking for alternative competitive options.
Hope to see you all at the track and meet you all. Look forward to racing soon.

Dont' worry about using a 17.5, you'll be slower but it might better for you since you're new to 12th scale. You'll be fine.
As far as 1s esc's there is quite a bit out there. Viper, Hobbywing, Speed Passion, Orca, LRP, Orion, Novak. Waiting for the Tekin 1s. Some are inexpensive and large.
See you at the track.

Dbl pink front pink rear is a good starting point for 1/12 on asphalt.
See you at the track

9six,
All I can say to WGT is give me time. Haha, that class appealed to me from the start however 1/12 is more common. I estimate 3-4 months before I'm running both. One thing I learned Tucson I hate waiting around between races.
Thanks for the open arms, can't wait to start turning laps.

I have one 120LT and one LTX. Running the LT and saving the LTX for parts. Once I get the hang of it I will build up the LTX chassis and use my LT for parts. I have already stocked up on the common parts over and above the two kits. Now I have two XRay II's as well. Just purchased a speed passion ESC and 13.5T set up after everyone's advice. I will still probably start out with my 17.5T for a little wile then move up.

Probably about 1/3rd to 1/2 of the racers hate to wait between races...so we are out there on non-race Sundays practicing and just hanging out. We will likely be out at the track this weekend if you want to get your car dialed in before the first race of the season.
