I started racing in 1994/1995 with a tamiya boomerang, so i'm not sure if I qualify to be here?
But I do remember having to wait 13-15 hours to use my 1200 nicad, fefore I got my 30minute fast charger!
I have also been actively racing 1/10th sedan since the class first started here in the UK, when we used a wide on road body on the off road cars (I managed to make some orion matched 1700scrc dump before the 5 minutes
) I used my Tenth Technology predator back then.
Then finally, Tamiya started making sedan cars, and it took off from there.... Not looked back since, or into another class of racing, purely on road for me now...
