A big body grinder would actually work nicely for that even a 4" angle grinder would work but a little slower.

Also don't nail the stand together it wont hold, use deck screws.

I know money is tight snoopy, they do actually make a walk behind concrete grinder/sander. You can rent at rental places. Maybe someone on here is a contractor or something. Maybe after a race or two the funds would be there to get one for a weekend and fix everything.

How big is the "spot" in need of smoothing? How rough is it?

If it's a large area you might just remove material and pour new concrete then smooth the new concrete out to get an even surface.

I have seen the grinder drags. Very cool for what it is. Some of the spectators are kind of strange though.

Its the scar from the post hole, when it was a tennis court. It was about the size of a Slurpee cup, but I filled it with concrete to within half an inch of level with the surrounding asphalt and then finished it with drive crack patch.

Some of the asphalt around it is curled up. Not much but even a little when a TC hits it wont be good. I am thinking about heating it up and beating the daylights out of all the high spots. Then trying the drive patch again. Still not past the belt sander.

Before the surface was painted and the plantlife was dug out of the hole. Here is the spot in question. I will get a new photo asap.

It's 9 pm. I just got in from my list. Did you get to make any headway today?

Wed. and thursday as well as saturday should be ok for me. I have a hand grinder, but I will first take off all the sponsor stickers.

The drive patch was still really soft. Its been in the sun for almost a week, so I scraped it out. I think moisture is coming up from below. The concrete was wet underneath. I know that it is going to rain tomorrow but that spot needs to air out. Even if it gets rained on tomorrow, it will dry out eventually. I should not have left that bucket on it. I think it will only slow our progress.

Is that post hole the only real problem area?

There are other spots and cracks that I would like to refine, but yes, that right there is the chief complaint. The rest of the track is drivable. Even fun.
