Let's talk modified 1/12

If you're burning a complete set every race day, you better be competitive at the top national level.
There's no need for that at the club level.

I used to race stock/mod12 in the late 90’s / early 2000’s at The Track in MD and could get away with using a set a day skimming the tires between rounds for club racing. Didn’t have to true them down to optimum cause you actually needed a decent layer of foam to help with grip on grey ozite. Eventually moved away from 1/12 and focused on TC.
Now ~15 years later started racing again at 180 Raceway in MD and 1/12 is a whole new ball game. I’m still figuring it out and everyone’s been helpful in the process. Getting used to the speed is one thing. Definitely overpowered so it’s figuring out how to detune a 3.5T to make it driveable without sacrificing performance. A lot has changed so it’s gonna take some time and honestly I don’t know if the eye-hand coordination is still intact. 13.5 is about how fast mod12 was when I raced it back then so definitely easier to drive, but down on power. I need Mike Dunnigan to come back to help build me some brushless power like he did for my stock and mod brushed motors back in the day…

Yep, I know a lot of the mod 1/12 racers at Cleveland would have one run tires…

As an alternative to the 3.5 buy the HW 30401123 6.5 onroad spec motor. It's built like a stock motor but with 6.5t. it will run closest to a 13.5.
Run it in boost -- otherwise you'll just kill batteries running blinky.

I can only imagine this is going to be an unpopular opinion -
I’d love to try SJT tire 6.5 mod 12th in a club race setting. For club racing it be nice to have tires that last a bit longer, a little bit slower tires, and motors that don’t have as much power as 3.5’s.
I don’t think this be a perfect solution for mod 12th club racing in the states but I would sure love to try it. It be an interesting strategy to get buggy guys to buy into 12th scale. As a long time buggy guy I have a blast driving 12th scale but on a local level I could only ever dream of getting to run mod 12 😣😣
