I might consider selling my D08 in anticipation of the D09 coming out. I only have 5 weeks on the car and I have all the springs for it, they are not the TBBS.

Hi All,

Can someone explain if 4 hole pistons give under dampening then what is the difference in effect between changing to 3 holes vs compensating with heavier oil?

Thanks

Hi tlp,

Less holes or smaller hole diameter and lighter oil gives same low speed dampning but higher high speed damping. Somewhere on petitrc there was a nice comparison chart...

Thanks so would a good general statement be that small holes lighter oil gives more progressive dampening whereas large holes heavier oil gives a more linear dampening?

Yes. I`ve got the vbc tbbs shocks and as they have quite high damping with 3 hole pistons and 350 oil i rebuilt them with 4 hole and 450 and its more moderate now. But still harder damping compared to normal length yokomo shocks with 3 hole 550 oil.
So even with 4 hole pistons you maybe need a bit lighter oil.

carpet or asphalt? some were commenting earlier on this thread that they felt the 4 hole pistons which are shipped with dynamics edition felt under-damped and so they went to 3 hole

2. The kit shocks are good but 4 holes make them to soft buy and fit 3 holes with 400-450cst oil (400 my fav)
As for better the normal d08 shocks if it's really bump the larger shock should perform better but if it's not too bumpy the shorter ones are just as good but better on smooth tracks
comment here re pistons

If any of you guys are interested I'm thinking of selling my brand new D08 it is a fresh build never been run yet, options on car are the fan mount, emr .5 rear hubs and complete titanium and aluminum screw set, hard front bumper with my laps cutout. electronic's are not included, Built it for upcoming carpet season, but having shoulder surgery done so can't hold radio now. $450.00 shipped to lower 48.
