Yes, the brace will work but you can custom make one with a material of your choice; this is standard Tamiya body post width. I have 3 MF-01Xs and I love them all especially when running with RWD 210mm Mini. Nothing wrong with Rear Motor design since it provides good traction on acceleration. The car even works in sub zero temperature without special tires:

Default Speed tuned gear

Hi guys i need a little "building help".

I have read that many people have installed the "TL-01 speed tuned gear set" in their MF-01X, so I tried it too, but i ran into some problems.

As you can see in picture with black gears, only a narrow area of the "spur gear" is in contact with "counter gear", therefore the transmittable torque is reduced.

With the "stock gear" (white) the contact area is a lot larger.

So, what corrections/modifications have you done to make the "speed tuned gear set" work properly?

Thank you for your suggestions

About the speed tuned gear......I noticed that too but it has been fine so far. These make a big difference in speed and cheap enough to stock up on.

What motor do you run?
with stock brushed the "tuned gear" will not strip also if they have little contact area, but with brusless could it be a problem?
I was thinking about a 21.5T brushless, but with standar gear and 24T would be a Final Drive Ratio of 6.3 that maybe is too short.
Maybe a 17.5T with final ratio 6.3 would be fine?

I will use the car in rallycross track.
Thank you for your help

I have two MF01Xs and I use 17.5T BL and Sport Tuned (23T) Brushed motors. My pink Cooper is 23T and it is quite quick. I bash with no other cars and that may be why I have not broken or stripped the gears. This car is so much fun and inexpensive; a third one is coming but will be RWD therefore less stress.

If you run on Rallycross I think stock gear may be a better choice for durability.

Just ordered the rally beetle from Tower. Gonna use Tt02 cva shocks and a bearing set. Anything else I should get for the build?

I always like to get the High Torque servo saver as well. However I can't remember if you need the aluminum M05 horn with it. The manual might specify if its a direct fit.

I just picked up the Escort Mk II kit, waiting on a Fast Eddie bearing kit.

This will be my second MF-01X. Lovely cars

Nice, I’m prepping the body as well, but it’s going on my Sabre Mini 4WD

So before I build what is the part number for the motor plate? or should I get aftermarket? Best shocks? any other worthy upgrades? Thanks

Just wonder what is the largest possible pinion gear that I can use with the MF01x? The manual said 20T but since the motor position is not fixed like the M05/M06 or the TL01, I suppose a larger pinion can be installed.

Since Tamiya released MF01X, I thought that they should've made it with center motor. And now I got enough experience with CAD to make my own variant.
from the start, I wanted to design it as an original Tamiya part - so the design should me more or less doable in injection molding and contain as few extra parts as possible - and I think I succeeded.

I still need to print some more parts, but the core is working. I'll release files once everything's tested and bugs are ironed out
It uses M-chassis gear set to get around the "spur gear" from the original. I had to use it to get motor more into center of the chassis, while avoiding need for another TL01 gear set or custom gears. As side-effect, it'll have identical gear options to other Tamiya M-chassis, but also allows pinion gears as small as 14T to get closer to the TL01 gearing. Only other non-printed extra parts needed are two 1050 bearings, a 40mm gear shaft and few extra screws.

So what do you think? Any ideas will be appreciated
