Thanks man. Read these pages so many times I get confused.
I have ordered spur and pinions and that spur adapter.
Going to use the same 96T 64p kawada spur for TRF102 and TRF419X.

What motor you running? with 21.5 I am down to an 82T spur - helps keep the motor close to the axle which can help with rear grip.

Ordered 2x of each t-plate. Hope it's enough.

If you don't hit anything they are fine but the OEM ones don't like rear side impacts much... most of the AM ones use different materials and/or different shapes to make them more resilient.

I ordered the SMJ TC dampers. Not sure if they fit, but I will find out.

To be frank, the damper on the TRF102 is a Tamiya TRF damper and they are pretty much as good as it gets. If you want to replace the roll damper Tamiya does make an hop-up oil damper but I personally didn't like it as much as the friction damper.

Thanks for reply man!

Yes running 21.5T ETS combo. Did not realize the size mattered. New to this. hihi But i might just keep my 96T for now, since I then can use it with my 419X. Can't afford to many different types of spares.

ok, I am not aware of any aftermarket parts for t-plates. Any good ones out there? Any recommendations?

Sorry, I am using TRF dampers. It's the springs I am asking for. To have the possibility to adjust a bit. I will not replace the friction damper.

Last but not least, on asphalt outdoor track, medium grip I guess, what camber up front do you guys use?
Instructions says 1 deg if I remember correct, I think at least 1.5 deg to start with. Do you use more?
How much toe in or out do you use? as a starting point.

 Size ALWAYS matters - its only to what degree that differs. If you are keeping the 96T I hope you got some BIG pinions. If I ran 96T I'd need at least a 38T pinion and I am currently geared pretty conservatively,.. and I am not even sure gearing that big will fit.

You sure your budget can't stretch to a couple of $5 spur gears

Personally I use the Bezerk RC one, but then I am a bit biased as I helped develop it - and I've not broken one ever. There are a couple of others as well you'll find if you do a bit of searching through the thread.

Same point applies - Tamiya springs on TRF shocks does it for me. I've run the same spring on the last 3 f1 cars I've owned and on probably 6 or 7 different tracks (all outdoors, low to med grip). I've never personally encountered a track where I said "I have to much rear grip - I need a harder spring"... Maybe on carpet you need a few more options but I've only raced TC's on carpet a few times and never with an F1 so I can't say.

I run 2deg camber and again unless there is a really obvious reason to change (tyre wear etc) I don't muck around with it too much. Toe I play with a bit more and have run anywhere from 0deg to 3deg toe out depending on the car and track conditions etc - Currently running 0deg. There has been a bit of "discussion" in some threads recently about toe in vs toe out but I think that has to do with most people's TC-centric backgrounds. 2WD cars seem to able to use toe out a lot more effectively than TC's. That being said I am considering trying a little toe in at one particular track as its VERY low grip and I need a bit more stability.

hahaha
My budget just turned over $1000 USD and those spurs / pinions aren't part of that. So I am not sure if I bother to get those.
But I did not know this before I started. So maybe I do it at a later stage.

Thanks for helping.

I mounted my TRF alu camber block and servo horn and it just makes me glad to see all that blue.

Dude, don't be a cheap arse. LOL

Having the right gear ratio for your track makes a HUGE difference.

well... my super-tough kawada spurs is too thick.
Is Kawada Super Diff Gear 64P thinner?
Might go with the 92T spurs I think. Not sure

To thick

I think you might have something wrong there - I've used Kawada spurs a lot and only recently switched because I wanted smaller sizes than I could get in Kawada at the time.

The Super Diff gear is pretty much the same except for more holes for more diff balls

Well, got my new Kawada spurs today. 96T but NOT the Super-Though. Now it's a diff I like.

Tamiya has announced a black version of the TRF102. It seems to be the same other than annodising colour.

I agree with the article writer, why would you want the monochrome of all black when you can have the crack attraction of Tamiya blue?? :)

viking44 12-06-2016 11:01 AM

Because black is beautiful. And badass! Besides I have 2 other cars that are decked out in Tamiya (and Exotek) blue crack. My current all-black, narrow F103 resto/conversion project:

I'd like a black one

I did the all black version of my RM01 1/12 Tamiya and I regret it everyday... that Tamiya blue just makes it stand out and gives it identity - just like the orange does with XRay or pink does with 3Racing

Tamabuchi Corp 12-08-2016 02:18 AM

Is it a fake announcement? Its doesn't appear on the official Tamiya Jan17 release page..
