Hi guys, anyone can give me a performance comparison between TRF102 vs F104X1? Any help on this is much appreciated. Thanks!

hello
i've got an x1 long time before i test this TRF102. Far as i remember , the driving of the car is pretty similar. You feel the F104 driving heritage in this TRF102. I've not completly finish the test of this TRF, but for now, with the box setup , the feeling is pretty close maybe a bit easier to drive. (and certainly quicker)
I've ran it only on carpet sor far. Some drivers says that is potential is better on asphalt.

I have been driving the 102 since July exclusively on asphalt, and for me it's the best Tamiya F1 car that I've ever owned. I've not yet run the car on carpet, and would appreciate any feedback or tips from other 102 owners that have raced the car indoors.
Thank you!

for now i've just put some stiffer springs in the front and a 3racing camber piece with the 2° part , it realy improve the steering.

I'll do further test this Week End (upright shaft position, lateral damper, ect ..) and i plan to race it at our indoor challenge next week end

To be honest Bill, I have found the car flexes a lot on carpet and was twitchy for me. I only have one practice day with it, so maybe I am missing something. In the past, on asphalt, when the car was flexing too much in high grip, I servo taped the battery to the lower chassis to help stiffen the car. I didn't have a chance to try that yet.

Really, the car should be awesome if it can be tamed. I think that some work and some serious thought will be required.

Rob, Ph3nyx:
Thank you for your responses. Using the thick or thin t-bar on carpet?
Bill

The gp chassis and probably the regular f104 chassis can be used in place of the flexi stock.

The thing is that you only get 2 screws in the middle bulkheads vs. 6 in the stock chassis. Maybe it's not a problem....?

It works the same as the older 104s, t-bar secured to the chassis plate with the post working as the but to hold it all together. The only thing you really lose its the extra mounting screws for the aluminum 102 servo mounts but the plastic and older aluminum mounts still work fine.

i've tried upright shaft position to the rear position tonight ! improved a lot the stability of the car. get .3sec on our indoor carpet track ;)

one question:
Does The TRF102 suffers the same understeer effect of the F104X1 ?

The car has far better steering response everywhere, carries more speed through mid corner. The stock chassis plate flexes too much for medium to high bite carpet resulting in unstable braking.

The x1 launches better out of the corner.

I can't find anywhere who still has these in stock at the moment

Will keep looking.
